Zella Conley of Mead took individual honors and University squeezed by Mead to take the team title at the 4A regional gymnastics meet at University HS on Saturday.
University edged out Mead 173.250 to 171.4 for the honor of sending all of its athletes to state at the Tacoma Dome on Friday. Demri Oglesbee (35.275), Anna Johnson (34.775), and Shaunay Garcia (34.550) finished third through fifth overall for U-Hi.
All gymnasts from University will advance to the state meet that is held at the Tacoma Dome on Friday. Gymnasts for the Titans includes: Oglesbee (Sr.), Garcia (Sr.), Johnson (Jr.), Pam Styborski (Jr.), Stacey McNeely (So.), Autumn Gallagher (So.), Justine Jordan (Fr.), and Allie Van Slyke (Fr.).
Conley topped all gymnasts in the all-around scoring with a score of 37.675. She will advance to state along with fellow Mead gymnasts Taylor Britz and Mya Stein competing on the bars, Sophie Shawen on the beam, Olivia Sablan on the floor, and Lexi Weller and Stein on the vault.
Jessica Harpel from Ferris had a big day at the Regional meet as well taking second in the all-around with a score of 37.100. She will advance to state and compete in all four events.
Other state qualifiers include: Hannah Rohe (FER) for the bars; Chloe Robbins (Central Valley) for the beam, floor, and vault; Chloe McQuesten (Lewis and Clark) for the beam; and Victoria Axtell (CV) for the floor.
