Third quarter lifts LC

Sydney Butler scored a game-high 24 points with three 3-pointers Tuesday and the Lake City girls basketball team shot 7 for 14 in the third quarter, including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc, to upend Cheney (2-2) 56-37 in non-league play at Cheney.

The Timberwolves (8-1, 1-1) led by just two at halftime, but a pair of 3-pointers from Butler and two more from Jasmine Smith helped them take an 11-point lead into the final frame.

Coeur d’Alene 68, Pullman 47: Heather Baughman and Carli Rosenthal combined for 12 of the Vikings’ (8-0) 23 points in the third quarter to extend their lead over the Greyhounds (2-1) to 17 at the start of the fourth quarter and earn the win in Coeur d’Alene.

Clarkston 66, Moscow 59: Kellie McCann-Smith led all scorers with 23 points and K.C. McConnel had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Bantams (2-3) in their win over the Bears (2-9, 0-1) in Clarkston.

West Valley 58, Lakeside 34: Shaniqua Nilles notched a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds and the WV Eagles (2-0) tallied 52 rebounds against Lakeside (5-1) at West Valley.

Freeman 63, Medical Lake 27: The host Scotties (7-0) had no trouble finding Megan McIntyre down low against the Cardinals (2-2) as the senior forward dominated the paint for 21 points, shooting better than 50 percent from the floor at the Spokane Valley Hub.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 62, Northwest Christian 44: The Warriors (4-0) held the visiting Crusaders (1-4) to just three points in the first quarter and Madeline Isaak and Nikki Osborne combined for 41 points for the Warriors.

Lind-Ritzville 54, LaCrosse-Washtucna 39: Devon Killian had 16 points and Davi Killian added 10 and the Broncos (1-2) outscored the visiting Tigercats (2-3, 0-2) 18-9 in the third quarter to earn the win. Gladys Martinez had 21 points for the Tigercats.

Reardan 81, Odessa 13: Kelsey Moos led with 19 points and Katy Burge added 14 and the Indians (2-1) knocked off the Tigers (1-3) in Odessa.

Liberty 62, Wilbur-Creston 25: The visiting Lancers (3-0) forced 40 turnovers, including 24 steals, and Katra Browning had 18 points and 13 rebounds in their win over the Wildcats (2-4).

Colfax 74, Tekoa-Oakesdale 35: The visiting Bulldogs (1-0) were led by 25 points from Kayla Johnson and 12 from Shaina Simonson and they forced 24 first-half turnovers to outrun the Nighthawks (2-2, 1-1).

Snowouts: Riverside at Newport was postponed and will be made up in late January. No specific date was set.

Panorama League

Springdale 79, St. Michael’s 13: Alicea Morrell scored 12 with eight rebounds and junior Nicole Presho came up from JV to score 10 points as the Chargers (7-0, 3-0) rolled past the Warriors (0-3, 0-3) in Springdale.

Republic 42, Curlew 35: Tori Orestad had 12 points, including a 3-pointer during a 9-0 run by the Tigers (4-1, 1-0) in the fourth quarter to open an 11-point lead against the Cougars (3-2, 0-1) in Republic.

Columbia 76, Selkirk 44: Krista Colvin had 11 points, nine steals, six rebounds and five assists and Julie Ann Larrew had 10 of her 14 points in the first quarter of the Lions’ (5-2, 2-1) victory over the Rangers (2-5, 1-2) in Hunters.

Northport 45, Inchelium 42: The Mustangs (2-4, 1-2) broke a 42-42 deadlock in the waning moments of the fourth quarter on three free throws to edge the Hornets (0-6, 0-3) in Inchelium. Shaynee Wilson had 25 points, including three 3-pointers for the Mustangs.

District 9 League

Rosalia 50, Garfield-Palouse 12: Kaitlin Maley had 15 points and Brianne Maley had 13 and the Spartans (3-3, 0-1) ran away with a win against the Vikings (0-4, 0-1) in Rosalia.

North Star League

Lakeside 28, Mullan 26: Nicole Axtman led all scorers with seven points and had three steals as the Tigers (4-3, 1-0) withstood a late run by the Knights (2-3, 0-1) to preserve the win in Mullan.
