Cody Moreland hit his only two 3-pointers of the season to fuel a fourth-quarter rally and then made all four of his free throws in overtime as third-seeded Lakeland (7-12) opened the 4A Region I boys basketball tournament by beating Sandpoint 55-51 in Sandpoint.
Moreland finished with 27 points, hitting 9 of 15 field goals, and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Hawks play at top-seeded Moscow on Thursday. If Lakeland loses, it heads back to Sandpoint (3-14) for a loser-out game. If it wins, the Bulldogs play at Moscow on Saturday.
Sandpoint was led by Stefan Buratto with 18 points on 9-of-14 shooting, and Spencer Swerin with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Colville 64, Riverside 54: The Indians (7-11, 4-8) used a dominating second quarter to build a big lead and withstood a charge by the Rams (4-13, 2-10) in the fourth quarter. Austin Pete hit 6 of 7 free throws on his way to 16 points for the Indians, who got 11 points and six rebounds from Miguel Anaya and 12 points, five steals and four assists from P.J. Sager. Joe Nyberg had 27 points, hitting six 3-pointers, for the Rams.
Pullman 47, Cheney 41: The Greyhounds (13-4, 10-1) parlayed an advantage in turnovers into a win over the Blackhawks (7-11, 5-7) in a tight game in Pullman. Both teams shot just better than 50 percent and hardly got to the foul line. Cheney, which had a 20-14 rebounding edge, had 17 turnovers to 12 for Pullman.
Clarkston 73, Deer Park 53: Dustin McConnell scored 12 points and Nic Carey and Cody Brown split 22 as the 10th-ranked Bantams (12-5, 11-1) dispatched the visiting Stags (2-16, 1-11). Alex Wolf led DP with 18.
West Valley 41, Medical Lake 22: The visiting Eagles (14-4, 10-2) broke away from an 11-10 halftime lead by outscoring the Cardinals (7-10, 4-7) 30-12 in the second half. Matt Roth had 13 points and 12 rebounds for West Valley.
District 9 2B
Pomeroy 63, DeSales 50: The Pirates (3-18), fourth seed from the North, raced to a huge lead in the first quarter to eliminate the Irish, the No. 5 seed from the South. Pomeroy, which got 16 points from Kevin Curnutt and 13 from Greg Beale and Justin Ruark, plays at Liberty Christian, the No. 1 seed from the South, on Thursday.
Wallace 65, Kootenai 53: The visiting Miners (13-6, 8-0) used a 20-12 advantage in the third quarter and 12 offensive rebounds in the second half to hold off the Tigers (4-12, 4-4) at Harrison. Jared Bilaski led Wallace with 21 points and Nick Arthun added 15. Cody Parker had 19 for Kootenai and senior Marshall Myhre, who missed the rest of the season with an injury, got seven in his first game on Senior Night.
Lakeside 59, Clark Fork 55: Senior Merlin Weaselhead had 23 points on Senior Night to lead the Knights (6-11, 4-4) past the visiting Wampus Cats (5-14, 4-4) at Plummer. Lamont Higgins added 14. Jared Broggi had 25 for CF with Stillman Berkley adding 13. Lakeside goes to Wallace at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a play-in game.
