Central Valley rallied from a seven-point, first-quarter deficit to defeat Mead 42-41 Tuesday night and close ground on the Panthers in the Greater Spokane League.
The visiting Bears (8-3) scored with 20 seconds remaining and weathered a late attempt by Mead (8-2) for the victory. Mead had won at CV earlier this year by rallying from a big first-half deficit.
CV didn’t fall as far behind, but it had to come from behind and returned the favor at Mead.
Freshmen Brooke Gallaway, with 15 points, and Whitney Black, with 12, paced the Bears.
Tifa Puletasi had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers.

The 6-foot-2 Kliewer finished the half with 16 points and six rebounds. She scored eight straight points in the first quarter after the Tigers fell behind 4-2 and had as many in the second quarter as LC put the game out of reach. By halftime, the lead ballooned to 41-15.
Kliewer finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Teammate Jeneva Anderson finished with 18 as the pair outscored the Saxons by themselves.
LC won its 44th consecutive game.
