Penalty kicks lift West Valley

Bryer Reynolds and Craig Norman scored on penalty kicks to lead West Valley past visiting Riverside 2-1 in a Great Northern League boys soccer match Tuesday.

The Eagles’ Chad Florence twice was taken down in the box, setting up the penalty kicks for WV.

Joe Nyberg scored Riverside’s goal when he scored from 30 yards out.

In other GNL matches, four players scored goals for Cheney as the Blackhawks handled visiting Deer Park 4-0. Xavier Day, Paul Holloway, Dan Igbinoba and Tyler Olson scored for Cheney. … At Clarkston, Medical Lake topped the Bantams 3-2 in a shootout. The Indians outscored Clarkston 4-2 during the shootout. Austin Durfee scored both regulation goals for Clarkston and Taylor Satcher and Jacob Albright scored for the Indians.

Baseball

Greater Spokane League: All five games were postponed. The University at Ferris, Mt. Spokane at Gonzaga Prep, Rogers at Mead, North Central at Shadle Park and Central Valley at Lewis and Clark games will be played this afternoon at 4.

Inland Empire League: Kyle Knigge had five hits and Lewiston (8-0, 5-0) got solid pitching as the Bengals remained unbeaten by sweeping visiting Sandpoint (2-4, 0-3) 6-1, 10-3. Knigge had three doubles in the opener and came back with two singles in the second game. … The Lake City at Post Falls contest was postponed. No makeup date was announced.

Intermountain League: Kellogg at Timberlake was postponed. No makeup date was announced.

Softball

Greater Spokane League: All five games were postponed. The Ferris at North Central, East Valley at Rogers and Mt. Spokane at University games will be played today at 4. The Central Valley at Gonzaga Prep and Lewis and Clark at Shadle Park games will be made up April 6.

Inland Empire League: Lewiston limited visiting Sandpoint to one hit in each game as the Bengals swept the Bulldogs 7-2 and 15-0 in a run-rule shortened second game in a doubleheader. Pitcher Jessica Ulrich pitched all five innings in the second game and the final six in the opener. She also hit a homer. … The Lake City at Post Falls game was postponed. No makeup date was announced.
