Idaho 5A soccer teams Coeur d’Alene and Lake City have advanced to a date Saturday for state tournament seeding.
The Inland Empire League regular-season champion Vikings (9-5-3) eliminated Lewiston (4-7-5) 1-0 Wednesday on Haley Smith’s goal in the 98th minute of scoreless overtime.
Coeur d’Alene outshot the visitors 13-6 but couldn’t get a score until Smith’s winner in the second overtime of the contest.
The second-seeded Timberwolves (6-3-5) topped Post Falls 2-1 on Nicole Danner’s goal with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Danner’s score came on an assist from Angela Nash.
Lake City led 1-0 on Marlee Elmer’s goal, assisted by Danner.
Trojan Tareyn White tied the match midway through the second half.
Saturday’s game will be at Coeur d’Alene.
•4A Region I: Sandpoint (11-4-2) defeated Moscow 2-1 in a shootout to advance to state in Caldwell, Oct. 22-24. Bryce Clark made a save on the eighth shooter to preserve the shootout lead. Sandpoint’s Meghan Pagano and Moscow’s Sara Blum scored in regulation. In that match, Sandpoint also had a shots advantage, 13-6 over the visitors, but Hayley Couture made nine saves and Blum’s score at 63 minutes sent it into overtime and ultimately the shootout.
•Greater Spokane League: Mt. Spokane and Mead continue apace following victories. The Wildcats (10-1 overall, 6-1 in the GSL, 18 points) beat North Central 5-1 with five players scoring goals. At University, the first-place Mead Panthers (9-1, 7-1, 21) kept the Titans (8-4, 5-3) in fourth place with a 2-1 triumph. Mikayla Anderson scored both Mead goals, including a drive through several defenders beginning at midfield. Last Friday, Mt. Spokane defeated Mead for the second straight year. Three matches remain in the regular season. In other matches, host Lewis and Clark (9-3, 6-1, 17 points) edged Gonzaga Prep (6-4, 3-4) 1-0 in a shootout at Hart Field. After scoreless regulation and two overtimes, the Tigers converted five penalty kicks for the win. … Central Valley (5-6, 4-3, 13) got three goals and an assist from Kaleigh Fox and a goal and two assists by Michelle Nemeth to beat host Rogers 10-1. … Visiting Ferris got goals from freshman Emily Fejeran and Sarah Harrison in the first half for a 2-1 win over Shadle Park.
•Great Northern League: Pullman (10-1 overall, 8-1) moved into second place with a 4-0 victory at Medical Lake. Niina Al-Hassan had a goal and assist.
