Britta Forsythe had 12 kills and MacKenzie Brown added 12 digs as host Lake City (2-1) defeated Coeur d’Alene 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 in 5A Inland Empire League volleyball on Thursday.
Hilary Ayers added 16 assists and five blocks, and Holly Cutler had five aces and five blocks for the Timberwolves. The Vikings are 0-1.
Also in 5A IEL, Jalana White finished with 10 kills and 25 assists, and Danielle Meehan had 14 kills as Post Falls (2-0) posted a 3-2 win at Lewiston (0-2).
•Piper Wahlin had 14 kills and 21 digs to lead the Sandpoint Bulldogs to a 3-1 win over visiting Moscow in a 4A IEL opener.
•In non-league play involving Greater Spokane League teams, Paula Jennings celebrated her 17th birthday with 13 kills as host Central Valley defeated University 3-1; Alexis Olgard finished with 13 kills, two aces and two blocks as Mead swept visiting Lewis and Clark 3-0; visiting East Valley defeated North Central 3-1; and Gonzaga Prep held off visiting Ferris 3-1.
•Marlee Master had nine kills and Tia Asbury 28 digs as St. Maries (2-0) swept visiting Bonners Ferry 3-0 in the Intermountain League. Mikki Erickson had 22 digs and three blocks for the Badgers (0-1). … Also in the IML, Megan Hill and Kelly Madsen had 11 kills apiece, but host Timberlake (0-2) fell to Kellogg 3-1 at Spirit Lake. The Wildcats are 1-1.
Norwegian exchange student Tryum Abakken had one goal and one assist in helping host Lakeland (1-5-1) to a 2-all tie against Lewiston (0-2-1) in a non-leaguer at Rathdrum featuring IEL teams.
•Aaron Moe assisted on the first goal and scored the second as Bonners Ferry (4-3, 2-0) posted its fourth consecutive win, a 3-0 decision at Priest River (0-2, 0-2) in the IML. Three of the wins have been shutouts.
