Area roundup: Butler hits milestone in LC win

Sydney Butler scored 12 points to go with five steals and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in her career to lead Lake City (6-1, 1-0) to a 45-34 win over Post Falls (2-5, 0-2) in its IEL 5A opener Saturday in Coeur d’Alene.

Katie Rowe added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Timberwolves, who outscored PF 13-6 in the fourth quarter.


Lakeland 55, Moscow 53: Jax Babor scored 12 points to lead four players in double figures as the visiting Hawks (4-4, 2-0) held off the Bears (2-6, 1-1). Taylor Anderson finished with a game-high 21 points for the Bears.


Bonners Ferry 43, Kellogg 32: Aubree Wasmer led all scorers with 13 points and the Badgers (1-2, 1-0) opened league play with a win over the host Wildcats (3-4, 0-1). Marah Ashcraft had 12 points for the Wildcats.

Timberlake 45, St. Maries 29: Cassie Thompson had 17 points, Caitlyn Nichols added 14 and the host Tigers (5-3, 1-0) held the Lumberjacks (2-4, 0-1) to two points in the third quarter in Spirit Lake.

Davenport 54, Liberty 41: Miranda Mielke fnished with 26 points and hit five 3-pointers to go with nine steals, leading the Gorillas (1-1, 1-0) to a win over the visiting Lancers (1-2, 0-1).

Kettle Falls 63, Springdale 29: Samantha Charlton had 19 points, nine steals and eight assists and Nikka Yankus added 12 points and seven rebounds as the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-1) rolled to a win over the visiting Chargers (0-3, 0-1).

Reardan 57, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 24: Liz Flowers and Katy Burge combined for 21 points and the Indians (3-1, 2-0) cruised to a win over the visiting Broncos (2-2, 0-1).


Wellpinit 55, Selkirk 46: Dani Flett hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter and Lauren Flett scored 11 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Redskins (1-1, 1-0) to a win over the host Rangers (3-2, 0-1) in Ione. Trailing by eight at the half, the Redskins outscored Selkirk 34-17 in the second half.

Curlew 43, Inchelium 21: Chanel Somday totaled 15 points and 10 steals and Jessica Jones added 10 points for the Cougars (4-0, 1-0), who ran their winning streak to four games against the visiting Hornets (0-3, 0-2).

Pomeroy 36, Rosalia 29: HayLee Koller tallied 14 points and seven rebounds and the Pirates (2-1, 1-1) took a 10-point lead into halftime and held on to beat the host Spartans (3-1, 1-1).

Colton 71, LaCrosse-Washtucna 8: Mollie Kramer scored a game-high 17 points and the visiting Wildcats (2-1, 2-0) cruised to a win over the Tigercats (0-4, 0-1).

St. John-Endicott 45, Touchet 32: Alli Winters and Emily Kucklick tallied 22 combined points and the visiting Eagles (3-0, 2-0) pulled away in the fourth quarter against the Indians (0-3, 0-2).

Tekoa-Oakesdale 39, Garfield-Palouse 30: Alexandria Overton’s 19 points led the way for the host Nighthawks (3-2, 1-1) against the Vikings (2-2, 0-1).


Mt. Spokane 49, East Valley 41: Kennadie Clute hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 13 points and the Wildcats (2-1) hit seven free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off the host Knights (2-2). Mt. Spokane held the Knights to just one field goal in the third quarter to open a seven-point lead.

Lewiston 66, Pullman 39: Tanis Fuller and Savannah Blinn combined for 29 points and the Bengals (5-0) held the visiting Greyhounds (1-2) to just four points in the opening quarter.

Clarkston 61, Sandpoint 28: Jamie Weisner notched 11 points, 12 rebounds and five steals and the Bantams (4-0) outscored the Bulldogs (2-6) by 17 after halftime to win the championship game of the Pendleton (Ore.) tournament.

Medical Lake 43, Riverside 31: Amelia Cook hit 7 of 18 from the field and added two 3-pointers for 19 points and Makenzie Biesecker added 10 points and 13 rebounds as the Cardinals (1-2) used a 49-22 rebounding edge to knock off the visiting Rams (1-2).

West Valley 45, Toppenish 22: Hannah Love outscored the Wildcats (1-2) by herself, finishing with 23 points and adding five rebounds for the host Eagles (2-0). Shaniqua Nilles added nine points and six boards for WV.

Cheney 45, Freeman 34: Mikayla Vergo and Allie Brown combined for 24 points and five assists and the Blackhawks (4-1) used strong defense in the second and third quarters to fend off the visiting Scotties (4-2).

Columbia 65, Republic 34: Krista Colvin had 27 points, six steals, four rebounds and four assists and the host Lions (4-0) used 12 steals in the first half to open a 26-15 lead in Hunters.

Moses Lake Christian 50, Odessa-Harrington 46: The visiting Lions (1-1) edged the Titans (1-3) with their rebounding advantage, despite 17 points and six steals from Justyne Talkington.
