Tyler Clark’s second-period pin at 119 pounds Wednesday night gave University (3-0) a 40-36 win over visiting Ferris in Greater Spokane League wrestling.
U-Hi trailed 30-22 when Jake Laden pinned Anthony Canton at 285. Ferris forfeited at 103, giving U-Hi a 34-30 edge.
The Saxons (0-1) had five consecutive pins, including Ben Alexander at 171 and Nick Morgan at 189, to overcome a 22-0 deficit and lead 30-22.
• Also in the GSL, Taylor Whetzel (189) had eight takedowns during a 16-7 major decision in the second-to-last match to help Mt. Spokane (1-1) secure a 35-34 win over visiting Shadle Park (0-2). Mt. Spokane’s Austin Pea (160) scored a takedown in overtime to win 5-3. … Jarod Maynes (130) pinned Jared Tso at 130 as Central Valley (3-0) closed with six consecutive wins during a 47-21 win at Lewis and Clark. Brooklin Sims (119) and Nolan Templeton (285) had pins for the Tigers (1-2). … Tim Vasilenko (189) pinned Tyler Bell in 48 seconds to start Mead (2-1) toward a 62-15 win over visiting Rogers. The Panthers finished with eight pins. Dwayne Robinson of the Pirates (0-2) pinned Jake Bogensberger at 5:05 while trailing 10-9 at 215. … Heber Martinez (285) scored an escape to defeat Evan Matthews 4-3 in three overtimes as North Central (2-1) posted a 73-0 win over visiting Gonzaga Prep (0-3).
Cady Markin (9.5) and Stacie Davis (8.875) went 1-2 in the balance beam to help University (156.95) win a five-way GSL meet at Ferris. Anandae Eglund of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) won the floor exercise (8.85) on the way to the all-around title (34.95). Lewis and Clark’s Lily Hoch won the uneven bars (9.25) and vault (8.85) to place second in the all-around (34.2).
