Preps roundup: Jesuit hands G-Prep first loss

Liz Brenner scored 20 points, hitting 14 of 16 from the free-throw line, to lead Jesuit (Ore.) to a 47-38 victory over Gonzaga Prep (7-1) in nonleague action Tuesday in Portland.

The Crusaders (8-0) hit 25 of their 28 attempts from the free-throw line, handing the Bullpups their first loss of the season.

Led by Ashley Largent’s 10 points, G-Prep could never get going, scoring just 10 points in the first half.

Timberlake 50, East Valley 36: Cassie Thompson scored a game-high 24 points and Kara Wenstrom added 12 as the Tigers (9-3) beat the visiting Knights (3-4) in Spirit Lake. Ashley Reynolds had 15 points to lead EV.

Priest River 33, Rogers 27: The Spartans (3-6) hit 5 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter, overcoming a one-point deficit through three quarters against the visiting Pirates (0-7).

Cusick 49, St. Michael’s 18: Andrea Heinen had 14 points and nine rebounds and Caytlin Nenema added 12 points as the Panthers (1-4) earned their first win, beating the visiting Warriors (1-3). The Panthers used a 19-2 run in the first quarter to put the game out of reach early.

Okanogan 58, Republic 35: Jameka Townsend led all scorers with 16 points and the Bulldogs (5-2) used a 23-point second quarter to put the visiting Tigers (4-5) away early.

Cascade 52, Lake Roosevelt 39: Annie Christie tallied a team-high 22 points and the Kodiaks (5-4) outscored the Raiders (2-4) 21-10 in the fourth quarter to pull away at the Chelan Tournament. Roweena Antone had 24 for the Raiders to lead all scorers.

Holiday Inn tourney

Federal Way 57, Lake City 49: Talia Walton scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half to lift the Eagles (6-0) over the Timberwolves (9-2) at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene.

Sydney Butler scored 16 of her 18 points in the second half to lead the Timberwolves, who play Lapwai today at 10 a.m.

Lewiston 63, Lapwai 56: Savannah Blinn and Tanis Fuller each scored 22 points and the Bengals (8-0) used a late fourth-quarter push to outlast the Wildcats (7-2). Natahnee Spencer scored 22 points to lead the Wildcats, who led by one after three quarters.

Lewiston plays Federal Way in the tournament semifinals at 1 p.m..

Chiawana 47, Post Falls 43: Haley Hodgins was the only player in double figures for the Riverhawks, scoring 19 points as they held off a late surge by the Trojans (5-6) to win.

Brooke Litalien had 17 points in the loss for the Trojans, who play Lowry on the second day of the tournament at 11:30 a.m.

Coeur d’Alene 65, Lowry 21: Sydney Williams had 16 points and six rebounds and Carli Rosenthal added 16 points as the Vikings (6-3) thumped Lowry.

The Vikings held Lowry to just eight points in the first half, scoring 57 of their points in the first three quarters.CdA plays Chiawana today in the other tournament semifinal at 2:30 p.m.

Freeman tourney

Freeman 57, St. Maries 23: Alyssa Maine’s 17 points were a game high and she added three steals as the Scotties (8-1) forced early turnovers to take a 27-4 lead at halftime against the Lumberjacks (2-6).

Emily Paukert added 12 points for the Scotties, who scored at least 13 points in all four quarters.

West Valley 52, Lakeland 35: Shaniqua Nilles scored more than half of the Eagles’ (6-0) points, finishing with 28 as they beat the Hawks (7-6). WV plays Freeman today in the championship game. Lakeland plays St. Maries in the consolation game.

Kellogg tourney

Kamiah 49, Kellogg 37: Shelby Cloninger led the Kubs with 20 points and the Wildcats (3-7) could not overcome a slow start in which they scored just seven first-quarter points and committed 18 first-half turnovers at the Silver Valley tournament.
