Cusick turns tables on Wellpinit

Louie Bluff scored 11 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter, adding 13 rebounds, and Spencer Shanholtzer hit a pair of free throws in the final minute to help lift Cusick to a 75-72 victory over Wellpinit in the Panorama 1B League tournament Saturday in Kettle Falls.

Shanholtzer finished with 14 points for the Panthers (17-5), who outscored the Redskins (18-3) 21-12 in the fourth quarter. The win came despite 12 3-pointers from the regular-season champion Redskins, led by five from Drake Wynne. Cody Flett had 24 points for the Redskins.

Cusick advances as the No. 1 seed to the District 7 tournament, playing St. Michael’s Tuesday. Wellpinit will play Odessa.

Inchelium 55, Northport 38: Tony Louie tallied 19 points, Chad Rosenbaum and Brandon Kohler each added 16 and after the Mustangs (7-14) cut the deficit to four at the start of the second half, the Hornets (16-6) outscored them 24-11 for the win in Kettle Falls. The Hornets advance to the 1B District 7 tournament and play Wilbur-Creston Tuesday, while Northport will play Almira/Coulee-Hartline.

St. Michael’s 70, Columbia 42: Michael Ochoa had 22 points and combined with Kevin Johnson to hit six 3-pointers as the Warriors (3-13) pounded the host Lions to advance to the District 7 tournament. The Lions were eliminated, falling behind big with an 18-7 second-quarter run by the Warriors.

Great Northern

Colville 66, Pullman 56: Fighting for second place, the Greyhounds (7-9, 6-4) could not get past the Indians (3-13, 2-8), allowing 24 points in the fourth quarter to lose in Colville. The Indians were led by Sawyer Bardwell’s 15 points and Alex Pond added 11, hitting 6 of 7 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Wade Meyer led Pullman with 11 points.

Clarkston 61, Riverside 36: Dustin McConnell scored 15 points and Chanse Brownell added 11 as the host Bantams (13-3, 9-1) beat the Rams (6-10, 3-7), outscoring them 19-2 in the fourth quarter.

Inland Empire

Lewiston 69, Lake City 58: Justin Podrabsky scored 16 points and hauled in 21 rebounds and the Bengals (8-8, 1-3) outscored the Timberwolves (10-8, 3-3) 43-32 after halftime to earn their first IEL victory this season.

The Timberwolves could have clinched no worse than second place with a win, but shot just 20 of 61 from the floor. They were led by Mark Smyly’s 13 points and nine rebounds.


Priest River 69, Timberlake 33: Jake Weimer finished with 23 points and the Spartans (13-3, 5-0) hit seven 3-pointers against the Tigers (8-10, 1-5) to finish the regular season with an unbeaten record in IML play, in Spirit Lake.

St. Maries 50, Kellogg 46 (OT): Dustin Lehman’s 22 points and 15 rebounds led all scorers and the Lumberjacks (7-6, 3-3) hit 6 of 10 from the free-throw line in overtime to hold off the Wildcats (11-7, 3-3) in St. Maries. Jake Mercer added 10 points for the Lumberjacks, including a three-point play at the end of regulation that helped send the game into overtime.

Cody Lewis had 20 points to lead the Wildcats, who finished the season in a tie with St. Maries.

District 9 1B

Rosalia 49, Tri-Cities Prep 35: Jim Maley’s 21 points and 11 rebounds paced the Spartans (20-0, 10-0) who put the finishing touches on an undefeated regular season by upending the defending State 1B champion Jaguars (6-5, 6-4) in Pasco. Nathan Richards added 18 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks for the Spartans helping them outrebound TCP 37-16.

Rosalia will have a first-round bye for the District 9 tournament, playing the winner of Touchet and Colton on Saturday.

St. John-Endicott 48, Touchet 39: Warren Miller tallied 21 points and 13 rebounds as the host Eagles (10-10, 4-6) knocked off the Indians (6-8, 4-6) vaulting them into third place, in the season finale.

Standing in fifth at the start of the day, SJE’s win ensured them a home game in the opening round of the District 9 tournament, playing LaCrosse-Washtucna Thursday at 6 p.m.

North Star

Kootenai 59, Clark Fork 39: Taylor Dodson had 17 points and the duo of Jacob and Dillon Zarpentine combined for 27 points and 16 rebounds for the Warriors (10-9, 5-1) in their win over the Wampus Cats (0-16, 0-7) in Harrison


Post Falls 79, Sandpoint 72: Marcus Colbert, Shawn Reid and Connor Hill combined to score 57 of the Trojans’ (16-2) 79 points, helping them outlast the Bulldogs (6-12) in Sandpoint. Stefan Buratto had 35 points, three assists and two steals for the Bulldogs.

Coeur d’Alene 60, Moscow 51: Connor White scored 10 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter to help the Vikings erase a 39-37 deficit to the Bears (13-5) after three quarters in Coeur d’Alene. The Vikings outscored Moscow 23-12 in the final frame, hitting 10 of 12 from the free-throw line.

Garfield-Palouse 54, Waitsburg-Prescott 53: Gavin Burt had 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals and hit two 3-pointers to give the Vikings (13-5) an eight-point cushion in the fourth quarter that would hold up against the visiting Cardinals.

Tekoa-Oakesdale 55, DeSales 46: Drake Hinkins scored 17 points and Brandon Hovde added 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks as the Nighthawks (5-14) outlasted the visiting Irish, forcing 12 turnovers.
