Kettle Falls earns NEA No. 3

Taylor Lewis had 17 points and Miranda Frederick 12 to lead Newport to a 58-27 win over visiting Kettle Falls on Monday night to secure the No. 3 seeding for the Grizzlies from the Northeast A League into the District 7 girls playoffs Wednesday.

A coin flip today between Freeman and Lakeside, who tied for first during the regular season, will determine the No. 1 and No. 2 seedings to district. Newport (11-10) will play the No. 2 seed Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Mead in the start of the double-elimination portion of the tournament.

Kettle Falls (11-9), the No. 4 seed, will play host to No. 5 Chewelah (1-19) at 6:30 p.m. in a loser-out game Wednesday. The winner plays the No. 1 seed determined by the coin flip on Friday at Mead at 8.

Idaho District I-II 2A

Kamiah 57, Coeur d’Alene Charter 24: Shelby Cloninger scored 18 points to lead an otherwise balanced attack by the Kubs that eliminated the Panthers (6-13) from the district tournament.

Kamiah must beat Grangeville twice in the district finals to earn a trip to state.


Garfield-Palouse 42, Walla Walla Valley Academy 35 (OT): Lacee Hendrickson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for Gar-Pal to force overtime, and the Vikings (4-15) dominated the extra period to collect the road win. Kacie Adair scored 25 to lead the way.

Boys Bi-County 2B tournament

Lind-Ritzville 59, Liberty 38: Senior James Stevenson scored 17 of the Broncos’ 28 first-half points and finished with 29, along with five steals, as LR (16-5) advanced to district play Thursday in Reardan against No. 2 seed Colfax.

The Lancer (6-15) move onto a loser-out game Friday at Reardan against the host Indians.

Davenport 54, Reardan 48: Reserves contributed a key 13 points, and 6-foot-9 Morgan Scharff led the way with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the first-round win.

The Gorillas (16-5) play No. 1 seed Northwest Christian on Friday at Reardan.

Inland Empire 5A

Post Falls 76, Lewiston 57: Marcus Colbert had 19 points and seven assists, and the Trojans (4-1, 16-2) got a strong contribution off the bench (38 combined points) in rolling over the visiting Bengals (1-4, 8-9).

Matt Lickfold scored 10 and Justin Mikkelson eight in a reserve role for Post Falls. Justin Podrabsky led Lewiston with 19 points.

North Star

Kootenai 68, Wallace 42: Jacob Zarpentine went off for 24 points, 12 to spark a 30-point fourth quarter that blew open a close game, as the Warriors (6-1, 11-9 overall) dealt the Miners (5-1, 8-9) their first league loss.

Wallace is at Lakeside on Friday in a key game for the league championship. It was Kooenai’s last regular-season game.


Priest River 74, Sandpoint 54: Four 3-pointers in the second quarter helped ignite the Spartans (14-3), who trailed after the first quarter, against the visiting Bulldogs (6-12).

Max Salesky led three Spartans in double figures with 26 points. Barrett Jaden and Jake Weimer scored 13 each. Stefan Buratto led Sandpoint with 14.

Lakeland 51, Bonners Ferry 43: Joel Underdahl knocked down three of six 3 pointers, scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Hawks (12-8) beat the Badgers (5-10) in Rathdrum. Brett Davis added 13 points and seven boards.

Justin Everhart led Bonners Ferry with 12 points.

Lake City freshmen 58, Mullan 42: The young visiting Timberwolves put three players in double figures to offset the 34 combined points of the Tigers’ Casey McKinnon (22) and Justin Scheel (12). Scheel also had 16 rebounds for the Tigers.
