Mead girls, U-Hi boys advance

Mead turned a close game into a runaway in the fourth quarter, dispatching visiting University 58-37 on Monday night in a loser-out girls basketball game that moves the Panthers into the double-elimination portion of the District 8 4A tournament.

That begins tonight with Mead visiting Central Valley and Gonzaga Prep at Lewis and Clark, both at 5:30.

Taylor Ingebritsen had seven of her 12 points in Mead’s 20-point fourth quarter that broke things open. U-Hi didn’t make a field goal in the final period, when the Titans had 10 of their 23 turnovers. Jazmine Redmon had 19 points, seven rebounds and five steals for the Panthers. Hallie Gennett’s 11 points were high for U-Hi.

University 45, Lewis and Clark 26: An 18-4 run to open the game got the Titans started and put the clamps on the Tigers in the final three quarters to breeze to victory in the loser-out game at LC.

U-Hi will be at Gonzaga Prep tonight at 7 when the double-elimination portion of the District 8 4A tournament gets started. Ferris is at Mead in the other first-round game at the same time.

After scoring 13 points in the first quarter, the Tigers went cold from the field, scoring just 13 the rest of the way while hitting just 9 of 47 shots from the field. U-Hi was 17 of 40.

Spencer Drury and Kyle Bailey scored 12 points each to lead U-Hi. Austin Ehlo and Levi Taylor had nine each to lead LC.
