Mead tops Gonzaga Prep to earn No. 2 softball seed

Regin Gallagher capped a five-run second inning with a three-run home run and Mead jumped out to a 7-0 lead before finishing off Gonzaga Prep (12-10) 8-5 in the District 8 4A tournament Tuesday at Whitworth.

The Panthers (18-4) advance as the No. 2 seed to regionals and face Wenatchee at 5 p.m. Friday at University. No. 3 seed G-Prep plays Walla Walla at 3 p.m. Friday at U-Hi.

District 8 3A

Mt. Spokane 14, Shadle Park 9: Abby Ricco went 3 for 3, scored three runs and drove in two as the Wildcats (11-11) benefited from 18 walks to score 14 runs on just seven hits in their win over the Highlanders (8-14) at Whitworth.

Mt. Spokane plays East Valley at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Valley in 3A regional play. Shadle plays the CBBN’s No. 2 team at 11 a.m. at CV.

District 7 2A

Cheney 7, Clarkston 6: Ryelynn Mendoza had two hits and Sirrea Vijarro added a triple as the Blackhawks (10-10) scored four runs in the seventh to rally for a win over the host Bantams (10-9). Cheney plays at West Valley at 4 p.m. Thursday. Clarkston plays Saturday at Whitworth, needing two wins for a state berth.

Riverside 3, Pullman 2: Brielle Supanchick’s RBI double gave the visiting Rams (13-8) all the cushion they needed as Megan Fisher held down the Greyhounds (11-10) the rest of the way. The Rams play at No. 1 Colville at 4 p.m. Thursday. Pullman plays Saturday at Whitworth.

District 9 2B

Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia 23, Asotin 8: Kiah Madison had six hits and Brianne Maley and Megan Brown each went 5 for 5 as the Nighthawks eliminated the Panthers. TOR plays DeSales at 4 p.m. Friday in Pasco.

Postponements

The opening game of the District 7 1A tournament between Newport and Kettle Falls was postponed by rain and will be made up at 4 p.m. today at Kettle Falls.

•Both District 7 2B games were postponed and will be made up today at 4 p.m.

Reardan will play at Republic. Northwest Christian hits the road to play Lind-Ritzville.

•The District 9 2B game between Garfield-Palouse and Dayton was postponed and will be played at 4 p.m. Thursday in Dayton.
