Freeman tops Okanogan, advances to Bi-District 1A championship game against Lakeside (WA)

MacKenzie Taylor poured in 15 of her 21 points in the second half and Freeman (22-1) overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to beat Okanogan (18-5) 49-43 and advance to the Bi-District 1A tournament championship game Friday at Mt. Spokane.

Taylor added 13 rebounds and Alyssa Maine chipped in 15 points and six assists for the Scotties, who forced 16 turnovers in the win. They will play Lakeside at 5:30 p.m. today in the title game at Mead, with both teams advancing to the state tournament. Okanogan will play Cascade at 1:30 p.m. in an elimination game, with the winner moving on to state.

Lakeside 56, Cascade 43: Taylor Flemming scored 21 points to go with five rebounds and Lexie Zappone added 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists as the Eagles (17-8) upended the Kodiaks (14-8) to advance to the championship game. The Eagles shot 43 percent for the game, going 5 of 10 from 3-point range in the first half.

Subregional 2A

East Valley (Yakima) 51, West Valley 44: After both teams went on runs in the first half, the Red Devils scored 26 points in the fourth quarter to eliminate the Eagles (18-6) in Ellensburg. Tassia Merkle scored 16 points to lead the Red Devils, while Shaniqua Nilles had 13 to pace WV. The Devils will play Prosser at 3 p.m. today for a spot in the state tournament.

Ephrata 52, Clarkston 50: Heidi Buchert tallied 20 points and Kelsey Yenney added 11, including three 3-pointers, as the Tigers (12-9) went on a 19-8 run against the Bantams (17-6) in the second quarter in Ellensburg and never looked back. The Bantams, led by Jamie Weisner’s 24 points, were eliminated from the postseason.

District 6 2B

Lake Roosevelt 47, Riverside Christian 39: The Raiders (15-8) knocked off the Crusaders (11-11) in the final game of the district tournament in Wenatchee. The Raiders advance to state, playing for either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed to state.
