McKenzie Heaslet hit 8 of 13 from the field and scored a game-high 20 points as the Colton girls bounced back from their second loss of the season to defeat St. John-Endicott (20-5) 70-30 Saturday in the loser-out game of the opening weekend of the State 1B tournament at Walla Walla High.
The Wildcats advanced to play in the Hardwood Classic at the Spokane Arena, forcing 32 turnovers and getting 38 points from their bench. Reserve Kaitlin Druffel scored nine points to go with five rebounds.
Leading the way for the Eagles was Ali Winters, who scored 10 points in the loss.
Colton will play Neah Bay at 9 a.m. Thursday
Columbia 66, Moses Lake Christian 44: JulieAnn Larrew led three players in double figures with 15 points and the Lions (25-2) advanced to the final eight of the state tournament by eliminating MLCA (20-6) at Eastmont High in East Wenatchee.
Krista Colvin added 13 points and 13 assists and Makenzie Parrow had eight points to go with five steals for Columbia, which plays Lopez at 12:15 p.m. Thursday.
Selkirk 49, Columbia Adventist 25: The Rangers (20-8) eliminated the Kodiaks in Mountlake Terrace to advance to the quarterfinals. The Rangers will open against Almira/Coulee-Hartline at 2 p.m.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 74, Cusick 59: Cody Jess went 10 of 14 from the floor, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, scoring 25 points as the Warriors (24-1) thumped the Panthers (19-8) at Walla Walla High.
Robert Hurka added 11 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds for ACH, which advanced to the second weekend of the state tournament and will play Mt. Rainier Lutheran at 3:45 p.m. Thursday.
Tyler Edwards paced the Panthers with 20 points and Derrick Bluff added 14 points.
Neah Bay 68, Northport 34: Drexler Doherty finished with 23 points and Eli Monette added 14 points as the Red Devils (21-5) dominated the Mustangs (15-11), eliminating Northport from the postseason in Mountlake Terrace.
Michal Marko scored 12 points to lead the Mustangs, who fell behind 16-8 after the opening quarter.
The second half was all Red Devils, as they outscored the Mustangs 39-15 to set up a quarterfinals with Rosalia at 9 p.m. Thursday.
Colton 63, Moses Lake Christian 37: After upending Wellpinit on Friday, the Wildcats (17-8) completed the weekend with a win over the Lions at Eastmont High in East Wenatchee to advance to the final eight.
The Wildcats will play Columbia Adventist of Battle Ground at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
