Mt. Spokane’s Courtney Bray won the all-around title and the Central Valley Bears used their balance to take the team title during Wednesday’s five-team Greater Spokane League gymnastics meet at Ferris.
Bray scored 36.375 points to hold off Anandae Eglund (35.375) and Davina Carr (34.15), both of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls).
Bray won the balance beam (9.35) and floor exercise (9.225) while finishing second in the uneven bars (8.65) and vault (9.15).
Eglund took first in the vault (9.25) while Carr won the bars (9.5).
CV, led the Lauren Speers and Mackenzie Lancaster, scored 141.9 points to hold off Mt. Spokane (140.55). The host Saxons were third, followed by Lakeside and North Central.
Speers placed fourth in the all-around at 30.4, followed by Lancaster’s 29.7.
Freshmen Phoenix Collier (103 pounds) and Matt Miller (130) earned their first league wins as Deer Park defeated visiting West Valley 69-7 in the Great Northern League. DP’s CJ Rodriguez (215) earned a second-round pin after trailing 2-0.
Taylor Bertolet kicked a 24-yard field goal as time expired in the fourth annual Under Armour All-American game, giving the Red team a 24-22 victory over the White team at St. Petersburg, Fla.
Quarterback Jeff Driskel, a Florida recruit, put Red in front 21-9 with a 63-yard touchdown run. Driskel finished with a team-high 80 yards rushing on six carries.
Max Wittek, headed for Southern California, helped the White team rally.
Wittek tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Jarvis Landry and found Malcolm Mitchell for a 49-yard score that made it 22-21 with 1:47 left.
Wittek completed 14 of 24 passes for 146 yards and Landry had eight receptions for 70 yards.
