University’s Cady Markin swept all four events and Mead used its balance for a narrow team win during Thursday’s five-team Greater Spokane League gymnastics meet at Mead.
Markin won the uneven bars (8.9 points), balance beam (9.2), floor exercise (9.35) and vault (9.4) on the way to 36.85 all-around points.
Cadie Pratt (36.15) finished second in the all-around to guide Mead to the team title. The Panthers scored 165.675 points to hold off U-Hi (164.8). Central Valley placed third at 148.625.
Lakeside’s Anadae Egland (36.1) took third in the all-around by placing second in bars, beam and floor.
Dakota Mauzay (140) and Elias Mason (152) had pins to help Cheney (2-1 Great Northern League) break from a close match for a 49-32 win over visiting Clarkston (0-2). Cheney’s Alin Walls (285) had a late takedown for an 8-7 victory. … Medical Lake (1-2) had seven pins on the way to a 70-12 win at Pullman. ML capped the night with Dean Petersen’s major decision at 152 and Nick Murray’s pin at 160. Jake Staniszewski (130) had a pin for Pullman (0-3).
Weather conditions caused the postponement or cancellation of several boys/girls doubleheaders. St. Maries against the Lake City junior varsity (girls at St. Maries, boys at LC) was postponed until Wednesday. Almira/Coulee-Hartline at St. Michael’s was rescheduled for Feb. 3. Priest River at Bonners Ferry was postponed with no makeup date announced. Clark Fork at Stillwater Christian and Mullan at the Kellogg JV were canceled.
