Greater Spokane League girls soccer teams showed their greatness Saturday in State 4A elimination games.
Central Valley, Gonzaga Prep and Mead all won and advanced to the state playoffs.
Gonzaga Prep got second-half goals from Jessica Bennett and Hannah Smith and the Bullpups blanked Davis 2-0 at Gonzaga Prep.
Goalkeeper Christie Tombari, back for her fourth game since returning form a concussion, posted the shutout. The Bullpups (15-2) are undefeated with Tombari in goal.
Gonzaga Prep will host Tahoma Wednesday night at 6 in the first round.
Central Valley (12-4) advanced with a 1-0 win at Moses Lake. Paige Ellingson scored the Bears’ lone goal off an assist from Savannah Hoekstra in the 12th minute.
CV goalkeeper Jessie Kunz-Pfeiffer made several diving saves to hold Moses Lake without a goal.
The Bears will play Mead in the first round on Wednesday.
The Panthers (14-3) advanced with a 1-0 victory at Richland. Kara Marbury scored in the 11th minute for Mead.
Mt. Spokane edges U-Hi, earns state berth
Mt. Spokane’s Rachel Jones scored with less than 30 seconds left in regulation to send the game to an eventual shootout, where the Wildcats edged University 2-1 at Joe Albi Stadium to advance to the state playoffs.
Mikayla Wolff and Riley Richardson scored in the shootout for Mt. Spokane (10-7).
Sheila Weiler put University (6-7) ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 34th minute. The score stayed that way until Jones’ goal just before the end of regulation.
Mt. Spokane will play Kamiakin Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick.
Pullman advances to state; West Valley eliminated
Pullman scored once in each half and edged Ephrata 2-1 in a regional tournament game at Pullman.
With the win, the Greyhounds (15-5) earned a spot in the state playoffs. They’ll play at West Valley (Yakima) Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Yakima.
Becky Birchett scored both of Pullman’s goals. Hannah Adams had both of the assists.
In the other winner-to-state, loser-out match, West Valley fell 6-4 at Prosser. The Mustangs scored the first four goals of the match to take a commanding lead.
The Eagles finished the season with a 13-6 record.
Newport and Lakeside win, advance to state playoffs
Newport and Lakeside won their regional games to earn a spot in the state playoffs.
The Grizzlies (17-2) got a hat trick from Taylor Lewis and blanked visiting Okanogan 6-0. Newport, which scored three goals in each half, will host a first-round match on Wednesday.
Lakeside (9-7) advanced with a 3-0 win over Cascade at Nine Mile Falls. Ashley Cook-Cox scored twice in the second half for the Eagles, who will play at La Salle or Naches in the first round on Wednesday.
Freeman (7-6) was eliminated after falling 4-3 at Cashmere.
