Post Falls scored two third-quarter touchdowns to break open a close game and the Trojans beat Lake City 17-7 in an Inland Empire League football matchup in Coeur d’Alene.
Johnny Haskew caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Joey Pfennigs and Tyson Johnson scored on a 56-yard run to lead Post Falls’ third-quarter charge.
Johnson finished with 197 yards on 37 carries for the Trojans (2-0).
Both teams entered the game having won their season-openers last week.
Pullman 35, Lakeside (WA) 27: Simon Schaffer scored on a 36-yard run with 2 minutes, 2 seconds remaining to give Pullman a nonleague win over Lakeside at Nine Mile Falls. Pullman led 21-14 at the half but the Eagles responded with 13 third-quarter points. Jimmy Day had 132 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead Lakeside (0-1). Justin Cialy was 13 of 23 passing for 264 yards and scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the Greyhounds (1-0).
Cheney 41, Kelowna 21: Cheney came alive in the second half and routed visiting Kelowna Secondary. Zach Mitchell had 107 rushing yards and three touchdowns for Cheney (1-0). Blackhawks’ quarterback Ben Bissell threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns.
Freeman 39, Bonners Ferry 7: Freeman (1-0) took a 27-0 lead into the half and cruised past host Bonners Ferry (0-2). The Badgers’ lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter – a 2-yard run by Zach Wilson. Quinn Robinson had 134 yards on 19 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead Freeman. Hayden Laabs and Cody Umfred also scored rushing touchdowns for the Scotties.
Timberlake 17, Riverside 6: Zach Ward scored on a 64-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and Timberlake (2-0) held on to beat host Riverside (0-1). Marcus Conley returned a kickoff 89 yards in the second quarter for the Rams’ lone score.
Newport 55, Liberty 0: Keith Coulson and Brandon Roberts ran for two touchdowns apiece as Newport routed host Liberty. The Grizzlies exploded for 35 first-quarter points and led 48-0 at the half.
East Valley 37, Sandpoint 13: Adam Talley ran for 184 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead East Valley to a rout of visiting Sandpoint. The Knights (1-0) scored 15 second-quarter points to take a 21-7 halftime lead. Ben Schmidt threw for 105 yards and a score to lead the Bulldogs (0-1)
West Valley 20, Moscow 0: Tyler Stavnes threw two first-quarter touchdown passes and West Valley (1-0) shut down visiting Moscow (0-1). Stavnes’ first touchdown was a 2-yard pass to Jake Bandell. Later in the quarter he found Terrynce Duke on a 50-yard connection.
Wellpinit 50, Northport 40: Greg Wynecoop and Kyle McCrea scored three touchdowns apiece to guide Wellpinit (1-0) to a nonleague win over visiting Northport (1-0) in a game between Northeast B North schools. McCrea scored on runs of 24 and 65 yards and caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Wynecoop. All of McCrea’s scores came in the first half. David Higgins ran for four touchdowns to lead the Mustangs.
Columbia-Inchelium 36, Republic 8: Columbia-Inchelium (1-0) raced out to a 22-0 first half lead and beat Republic 36-8. The Tigers (0-1) got on the board with a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Waitsburg-Prescott 48, Davenport 18: Waitsburg-Prescott’s offense came alive as the Cardinals (1-0) beat visiting Davenport (0-1).
Kamiah 54, Priest River 13: Jack Nygaard scored two first-quarter touchdowns to lead Kamiah to a rout over visiting Priest River (0-1). The Kubs (1-0) led 36-0 at halftime.
Selkirk 52, Curlew 8: Dominic Cain threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns to guide Selkirk to a 52-8 win over visiting Curlew. Beau Taylor caught all four of Cain’s touchdowns. Selkirk led 30-8 at the half.
ACH 44, Cusick 18: Derek Isaak ran for 229 yards on 17 carries and scored five TDs in Almira/Coulee-Hartline’s 44-18 rout of visiting Cusick. Ryan Sample had 58 rushing yards and a touchdown to guide Cusick (0-1), which trailed 36-6 after three quarters. ACH is 1-0.
LaCrosse-Washtucna 40, Salmon River 38: The Tigercats (1-0) scored 34 first-half points and held on to edge visiting Salmon River (1-1).
Medical Lake 20, St. Maries 12: Dylan Butorac caught two touchdown passes to guide Medical Lake (1-0) to a 20-12 win over visiting St. Maries. Ethan Sanchez returned a fumble 33 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter for St. Maries (0-1). Medical Lake’s Blake Andrews ran for an 8-yard score to cap the scoring in the fourth quarter.
Odessa-Harrington 54, St. John-Endicott 14: Odessa-Harrington (1-0) exploded for 34 second-quarter points and ran past host St. John-Endicott (0-1).
Colton 80, Wilbur-Creston 36: Colton (1-0) scored 28 first-quarter points and routed host Wilbur-Creston (0-1) 80-36. The Wildcats’ offense couldn’t be stopped as they led 47-14 at the half. Josh Straughan ran for five touchdowns and threw for three more.
Grangeville 53, Kellogg 13: Justin Robie scored three rushing TDs and Grangeville improved to 2-0 on the season with a win over the visiting Wildcats (0-1). The Bulldogs scored 19 points in the first quarter and led 33-7 at the half.
Lakeland 41, Colville 7: The Hawks (1-1) scored 14 points in each of the first two quarters and cruised past the host Indians (0-1).
