Central Valley boys make it 11 straight wins

It went down to the final seconds, but the Greater Spokane League-leading Central Valley boys basketball team extended its winning streak to 11 Thursday.

Austin Rehkow made two free throws with 9 seconds remaining to lift the Bears past the visiting Rogers Pirates 51-48.

Central Valley (14-3 overall, 13-2 league) got 15 points and five rebounds from Dustin Dach. Rogers (5-11, 4-11) saw its hopes of qualifying for the District 8 4A tournament dashed.

The Pirates opened a 15-9 lead in the first quarter, but the Bears got untracked in the third, outscoring Rogers 19-10.

Steve Delvecchio led Rogers with 21 points and nine rebounds.

University 79, Mt. Spokane 41: The Titans (14-3, 12-3) stayed a game behind first-place CV.

Zech Martin scored 17 points to go with five rebounds for U-Hi, which won easily at home. Brett Bailey and Joseph Carrieres added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Stu Stiles led Mt. Spokane (3-14, 2-13) with 11.

Shadle Park 62, North Central 49: Kionte Brown scored 12 of his 18 points in the first quarter as the Highlanders (10-8, 8-8) got the best of the Indians (3-14, 3-12) in the Groovy Shoes spirit game at the Arena.

Brett Boese scored a game-high 23 points for Shadle. Jamil Foster led NC with 13.

Ferris 47, Mead 43: The Panthers (4-13, 4-11) shocked the Saxons (12-5, 10-5) early, opening a 19-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Saxons rallied in the final period, outscoring visiting Mead 15-6.

Chris Wilson led Ferris with 20 points and Nathan Galgalo had 10 and four assists. Kurtis Karstetter had 11 rebounds.

Forrest Baker led Mead with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

IEL 5A

Coeur d’Alene 58, Lewiston 37: The visiting Vikings (13-4, 4-1) moved within a win of clinching the league title, pulling away from the Bengals (7-11, 0-5) in the final quarter.

The Vikings outscored Lewiston 24-12 in the fourth. Deon Watson led with 14 points, Joe Roletto scored 12 in the second half and Jared Moore had 11. Randon Fuentes led Lewiston with 10.

Great Northern

West Valley 50, East Valley 45: The Knights (7-11, 1-9) opened a 12-9 lead through the first quarter, but the visiting Eagles (17-1, 9-1) gained control by outscoring EV 17-8 in the second.

Jake Love led WV with 18 points and eight rebounds and Jordan Gassman added 11 points. JT Phelan had 18 points and 12 rebounds for EV.

The league title could be decided when WV travels to co-leader Pullman next Thursday.

Pullman 41, Clarkston 38: Austin Drake and Corey Langerveld each had 14 points to lead the visiting Greyhounds (16-2, 9-1) past the Bantams (10-7, 4-5).

No player reached double-figuring scoring for Clarkston.

Cheney 53, Medical Lake 32: The visiting Blackhawks (8-9, 3-6) held the Cardinals (7-11, 4-6) scoreless in the pivotal third quarter.

CJ Skillingstad had 11 points and Jon Miller 10 to lead Cheney. Kendyl Dunn had 15 for Medical Lake.

Nonleague

Lakeside (ID) 48, Troy 44: The Knights (10-5) outscored the visiting Trojans 12-2 in the fourth to complete a comeback at Plummer.

Jordan Brown led Lakeside with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Joseph Chapman had 12 points.

Coeur d’Alene Charter 58, Kootenai 30: The Panthers (9-7) zipped to a 35-12 halftime lead and the host Warriors (4-10) fell at Harrison.
