Central Valley capped its best season in school history by taking home the fourth-place trophy following a 3-1 loss to Bellarmine Prep at the boys State 4A soccer championships at Spark Stadium in Puyallup.
Prior to this year the Bears (13-5) had made three previous trips to the state tournament (1991, 2005 and 2008), never making it past the quarterfinals and posting a state record of 1-3.
It marks the first state boys soccer trophy for CV, which knocked off Emerald Ridge in the first round and Davis in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual state champion Skyview in its first semifinal appearance.
Kelli Peckham dominated on the mound and Natalie Noble had four hits and drove in a run as West Valley (27-2) beat Sequim 5-2 for third place at the State 2A tournament at Carlon Park in Selah.
Peckham pitched the complete game for the Eagles and struck out 11.
West Valley advanced with a 9-1 win over Fife and a 5-3 win over Selah earlier in the day.
Colville’s doubles duo of Liselotte Doggen and Erin Little took second place after falling to Overlake’s Caroline Spencer and Emily Walter in the finals of the 1A/2B/1B state championships in Yakima.
Lakeside’s Susie Aguirre and Nicky March also lost and took sixth place.
In the singles bracket, Davenport’s Miranda Mielke beat Reardan’s Lauren Schulz 6-4, 6-0 in the third/sixth-place match.
Central Valley’s Leslie Ho took seventh place after a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Kamiak’s Sally Park at the 4A championships in Richland.
Pullman’s Stephanie Her took eighth place after a straight-sets loss to Hockinson’s Michelle Chiou at the 2A championships in Seattle.
The Greyhounds’ doubles duo of Shayla Robinson and Brittani Harvey also took eighth place after falling in their final match.
Gonzaga Prep’s Alex Marcinkowski took fourth place with a straight-sets win over Thomas Jefferson’s Kainoa Rosa at the 4A championships in Richland, Wash.
Ferris’ Tom Geranios took eighth after falling to Stanwood’s Gergo Muller.
