LC rambles over Rogers

The Lewis and Clark Tigers had transportation issues, arriving at Joe Albi Stadium 30 minutes before their game Thursday.

The Tigers had no transportation problems once their Greater Spokane League football game kicked off. Lewis and Clark, coming off its worst game of the season, jumped all over the Rogers Pirates, finishing with a 52-6 victory.

LC (3-3) used three touchdowns and a 27-yard field goal by Matt Martin to build a 24-0 lead by halftime.

As quickly as the Tigers were off the bus in the first half, they were even speedier to open the second half.

LC’s Nigel King zipped 92 yards for a touchdown, taking the kickoff and splitting the middle of the field while breaking away untouched.

After LC’s defense stopped the Pirates on their first possession, the Tigers’ Brennan Schon returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown.

LC’s third TD in the period came when quarterback Andrew Black scooted 68 yards untouched on a bootleg, extending the lead to 45-0 with 6:37 to go in the period.

That score necessitated a running clock.

In the first half, LC running back Coleton Fitzgerald scored on runs of 2 and 9 yards and Black hit receiver Austin Giem on a 31-yard TD connection.

In addition to the field goal, Martin made 7 of 7 point-after kick attempts.

Black completed 10 of 16 passes for 192 yards.

A handful of defensive players stepped up for LC, including junior lineman Isaiah Lilley, who recovered two fumbles.

Rogers (0-6), playing without standout senior running back Luke Rogers for a second straight week because of an athletic code violation, was led by Anthony Hampton, who rushed for 108 yards on 24 carries.
