Mt. Spokane girls soccer stays unbeaten

A strong defensive effort on Friday kept Mt. Spokane atop the Greater Spokane League girls soccer standings. The Wildcats did just enough on the offensive side while dominating on defense in a 2-0 win over Gonzaga Prep at Mt. Spokane.

Mt. Spokane (12-0, 7-0, 21 points) held the Bullpups (9-3, 5-2, 15) without a shot in the first half and held a 12-3 advantage in shots overall.

Riley Richardson scored in the 36th minute and Kelsey Frank added an insurance goal in the 70th minute for Mt. Spokane.

Elsewhere in the GSL, Savannah Hoekstra scored in the 67th minute to break a 1-all tie and Central Valley (10-1, 7-0, 20) kept pace with Mt. Spokane in the GSL win-loss columns with a 2-1 win at Mead (7-3, 4-3, 12). Maddie Aldrich scored off a corner kick to give Mead a 1-0 lead. The Bears’ Sara Grozdanich responded in the 60th minute before Hoekstra’s winner. … Kelsey Walker’s goal in the 76th minute proved to be the difference as University (8-3, 5-2, 14) edged visiting Lewis and Clark (4-5, 3-4, 10) 2-1. The Titans held a 13-6 advantage in shots. … Brianna Sillivan scored two first-half goals and North Central (3-7, 2-5, 5) blanked Rogers (1-8, 0-8, 0) 3-0 at Rogers. Jenna Jensen added an insurance goal in the second half for the Indians. … Host Ferris (5-6, 1-6, 2) scored three second-half goals and beat Shadle Park (2-8, 1-6, 3) 4-0.


Taylor Ellingsen had 13 kills and six aces to lead Mead (7-0) to a sweep over host Central Valley (5-2) in a Greater Spokane League match. Scores were 25-8, 25-11 and 25-13.
