All season long, the Pullman Greyhounds and West Valley Eagles girls have seemingly fought to position themselves for this matchup.
The top-ranked Great Northern League foes continued their collision course with home victories in the District 7 2A girls basketball tournament on Thursday night, setting up a battle between the teams with identical 16-5 records tonight at 7 at West Valley for the No. 1 seed to the subregional.
Pullman 57, East Valley 49: Emily Drake scored 13 points and Dakota Wickard added 10 as the host Greyhounds took an early lead and held on to defeat the third-place Knights (14-8). Alex Rankin scored a game-high 18 for EV, which hosts Cheney tonight at 7 in a loser-out game.
West Valley 48, Cheney 35: Natalie Noble, Cassie Finn and Erin Higbie combined to score 30 as the Eagles built on their advantage in every quarter to secure the win over the visiting fifth-seeded Blackhawks (8-13). Chae Brown led Cheney with 11 points, Coreen Labish added 10 and Darien Brophy nine.
Boys Idaho 4A Region I
Moscow 66, Lakeland 49: Nick Ellison scored 16, Dane Randal added 15 points and the Bears (15-5) burst from the gates by making five 3-pointers in the opening quarter to defeat the visiting Hawks (11-11). Lakeland now hosts Sandpoint at 7 p.m. Tuesday in loser-out game for a chance to play Moscow again for a state berth.
Kellogg 63, Timberlake 52: Jesse Lambert and Garret Wendt each scored 19 as the Wildcats (12-8, 3-3) knocked off the first-place Tigers (16-3, 5-1) in a regular-season finale at Spirit Lake. Wendt added nine rebounds and hit six fourth-quarter free-throw attempts for Kellogg, which faces Priest River on Monday in a 6 p.m. 3A District I game at Lakeland with the higher seed determined by coin flip.
Priest River 45, Bonners Ferry 35: Jimmy Koch’s 15 points helped lead the Spartans (10-9) over the visiting Badgers. RC Akre added 12 points for PR.
