Ferris’ win knocks G-Prep out of first

Suddenly the logjam at the top of the Greater Spokane League boys basketball standings has been busted up.

And Central Valley has Ferris to thank.

Ferris handled the visiting Gonzaga Prep Bullpups 62-47 Friday.

Three nights after their biggest win of the season – when G-Prep pulled into a tie for first with CV – the Bullpups (13-3 overall, 12-2 league) succumbed to the Saxons (12-4, 10-4).

Cody Benzel led Ferris with 20 points. Sophomore Jalen Hicks came off the bench to hit two big 3-pointers. Ferris outscored G-Prep 26-16 in the fourth quarter.

Sam Dowd led G-Prep with 13 points and Jake Groh had 10.

Central Valley 63, Shadle Park 52: The Bears (15-1, 13-1) recovered from an 11-point first quarter deficit to hold off the visiting Highlanders (7-9, 6-8).

The Bears pulled away by outscoring Shadle 15-7 in the fourth.

Austin Rehkow led CV with 18 poins, Adam Chamberlain had 15, Austin Daines finished with 11 and Beau Byus had 10 to go with 10 rebounds.

George Pilimai led Shadle with 14 points and Alvin Welch had 11.

University 59, Mead 48: The Titans (10-6, 9-5) outscored the visiting Panthers (9-7, 7-7) 15-2 in the telling second quarter.

Brett Bailey led U-Hi with 27 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three assists. DeShaun Boswell had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Brandon Pettersen led Mead with 15 points and six rebounds.

Mt. Spokane 57, North Central 38: The Wildcats (7-9, 6-8) outscored the visiting Indians (0-16, 0-14) 20-10 in the third quarter.

Stu Stiles led Mt. Spokane with 18 points and Tanner Kissinger had seven rebounds, five steals and five assists.

Jalen Stranger led NC with 12 points and Jordan Wertman had 10.

Lewis and Clark 53, Rogers 50: The Tigers (7-9, 5-9) got a basket from Dean Richey with a minute to go and three free throws as they stopped the visiting Pirates (3-13, 2-12).

LC used a 26-6 run to close out the first half. But Rogers fought back in the second half, tying the score at 47 with 1:42 to go.

Richey led LC with 18 points and seven rebounds. Carson Murray led Rogers with 22 points.
