NWC district 2B champions

Northwest Christian turned the tables on Colfax to win the District 7 2B baseball championship Monday at Medical Lake and with it the No. 1 seed to regionals.

Senior David Yoppini used his arm and bat to lead the Crusaders (18-2) to their 12th straight win, a 14-0, five-inning victory over the Bulldogs. Colfax (14-3) had won the Northeast 2B League regular-season title, beating NWC twice in the process.

Yoppini pitched a five-inning no-hitter, recording 14 of the 15 outs on strikeouts, and contributed a double and triple to the Crusaders’ 15-hit attack.

He faced 19 batters, walking three. One Bulldog got aboard on an error.

NWC will face Asotin in the first round of regionals Saturday.

Colfax will play Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (13-8) at 7 p.m. today at Medical Lake to determine the district’s second and third seeds to regionals. That game was postponed on Monday by rain.

LRS defeated Reardan (13-6) 9-5 in a loser-out game Monday.

A six-run fourth, with all the runs scoring after two outs, was decisive for the Broncos. Connor O’Neill had a two-run single, Johnny Hernandez a run-scoring double, Dylan Hartz an RBI single and Tyler Greenwalt a two-run home run.

District 7 2A: The Clarkston boys and Pullman girls captured team titles when the two-day tournament wound up at MeadowWood Golf Course.

With Michael Baldeck capturing medalist honors with a 142, highlighted by a 3-under 69 Monday, and Joe Baldeck second at 145, Clarkston defeated runner-up Pullman 187-121.5 using the state scoring system.

The girls had co-medalists, with Becky Birchett of Pullman and Erin Wallman of East Valley matching 189s. The Greyhounds, who will send two to state, edged Deer Park, which qualified three for state, 138-134 for the team title.

District 7 2B/1B: Palmer Guhlke of Davenport claimed boys medalist honors by 11 strokes with a 168 when the 36-hole event wound up at MeadowWood, but it was Colfax, with a 2-3 finish, that won the championship.
