Jammie Madonna’s two-run double in the seventh inning gave Colville a 6-5 win over West Valley-Yakima in a 2A regional softball elimination game Saturday in Colville.
With the win, the Indians claimed the second seed to the state playoffs.
Colville put up four first-inning runs to gain an early advantage. Madonna and McKenna Cabbage each hit two-run doubles to put the Indians on top.
Cabbage had a no-hitter going into the sixth, but thanks to a couple of Colville errors, West Valley scored five runs in the inning and took a 5-4 lead.
In the seventh, Colville loaded the bases to set up Madonna’s game-winning hit.
• Deer Park was eliminated after falling to host Othello 2-1 in a 2A game.
The Stags’ Kylie Sweeney was the tough-luck loser after giving up two runs on four hits while striking out seven in seven innings.
Carly Durgalo and Sierra English had two hits apiece for the Stags.
Othello claimed the fourth seed to the state playoffs.
Nikki Tiffany hit a three-run home run and Lakeside beat Kettle Falls in an elimination game at Brewster.
The win gave the Eagles the third seed to the state tournament.
Tiffany also went the distance on the mound, giving up two runs on four hits.
Lakeside fell 6-4 to Okanogan in its first game. Keeley Morris had three home runs for the Bulldogs, including a two-run shot in the seventh that broke a 4-all tie.
DeSales claimed its region’s top seed to the state playoffs with an 11-1 win over Waitsburg-Prescott at Merkel Field in Spokane.
Waitsburg-Prescott advances as the No. 2 seed.
Colfax and Northwest Christian also earned state berths.
NWC’s Crusaders opened with a 10-2 win over Asotin, which guaranteed them a berth to state. Hannah Hustad was 3 for 4 at the plate and drove in six runs.
Northwest Christian fell to DeSales 8-1 in its second game and then beat Dayton 11-0 to claim the third seed.
Hayden Smith hit a three-run home run to lead the Crusaders at the plate. Hustad struck out 11 through six scoreless innings.
Colfax faced elimination after dropping its first game 9-6 to Dayton.
The Bulldogs fought back, however, and beat Springdale 12-6 to earn a state berth. The Bulldogs’ Carolyn Knaack hit a three-run double in the seventh to put Colfax ahead for good.
Springdale was eliminated.
In a game to determine the fifth and sixth seeds to state, Colfax topped Asotin 11-6.
Kasey Cloaninger drove in four runs and Rachel Robinson had three RBIs for Colfax.
Colton claimed the top seed to the state playoffs with an 18-8 rout of Almira/Coulee-Hartline in the regional title game at Medical Lake.
The Wildcats scored 12 runs in the second inning to gain an early advantage.
Colton beat St. Michael’s 18-10 in the first round and then beat Selkirk 11-7.
ACH and Selkirk also advance to state.
Idaho State 4A
Lakeland settled for second place after falling 4-2 to Bishop Kelly in the state championship game at Post Falls High School.
The Hawks opened the day with a 4-1 loss to Bishop Kelly, but earned a rematch after beating Skyview 4-2.
Lakeland beat Kuna and Blackfoot in the opening rounds on Friday.
