Mead hands CV first loss in girls soccer

Chae Brown scored back-to-back goals in the second half and the visiting Mead Panthers (9-1 overall, 4-1 GSL) knocked the Central Valley Bears (8-1, 4-1) from the unbeaten ranks and out of first place in Greater Spokane League girls soccer action on Wednesday.

Lewis and Clark (9-0, 4-0), which was idle, is the lone remaining undefeated team both overall and in GSL play.

Alea Acosta added two assists for the Panthers, who pulled into a tie for second place with CV, one-half game behind LC.

Gonzaga Prep 3, Mt. Spokane 2 (SO): The host Gonzaga Prep Bullpups (5-6, 2-3) outscored the Mt. Spokane Wildcats 4-3 in a shootout to post a 3-2 victory.

The Wildcats (5-3, 1-3) led 2-0 at the half on goals by Katie Nilsson and Emily Stiles, but G-Prep knotted the score in the second half on netters from Kenna Simon and Carolyn Cox.

Ferris 3, Shadle Park 0: Lauren Miller scored in the 27th minute and Caitlin Prothe added tallies at 31 and 51 minutes to lift the Ferris Saxons (7-3, 3-2) to a victory over the host Shadle Park Highlanders (2-5, 1-4).

North Central 2, Rogers 0: Jenna Jensen scored a pair of first-half goals and the North Central Indians (4-4, 2-3) cruised to a win over the visiting Rogers Pirates (3-7, 0-5) at Pacific Park.
