East Valley’s Scott Kopczynski had the top time among all classifications at the Runners Soul Erik Anderson cross country meet Saturday at Plantes Ferry Park in Spokane.
Kopczynski, competing in the 2A-1A race, finished the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 25.50 seconds, barely edging out teammate Chad Stevens, who finished in 16:25.83. West Valley’s Skylar Ovnicek was third, Lakeside’s Ryan Coffman was fourth and Colville’s Kevin Carpenter was fifth.
Gonzaga Prep’s Ian Andres won the 3A-4A race, finishing in 16:27.54. Coeur d’Alene’s Riley Estes was second in 17:04.57.
St. George’s Hunter Olsen was the 1B-2B champion in 16:48.06.
West Valley’s McCall Skay posted the best girls time. She won the 2A-1A race in 19:10.92. Lakeside’s Lindy Jacobson was second in 19:44.77.
In the 3A-4A race, Coeur d’Alene’s Emily Callahan was first in 19:38.58.
• North Central senior Kai Wilmot took first place out of 173 runners in the elite division at the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park in Boise.
Wilmot covered the 5,000-meter course in 15:10.
Mt. Spokane junior John Dressel was fourth in 15:19.80. North Central’s Tanner Anderson was sixth (15:25.10) and Shadle park’s Nicholas Hauger was ninth (15:36.10).
• Moscow freshman Katherine Ruck was the individual champion, but the Pullman girls edged the Bears for first place at the Seaport Invitational in Clarkston. Ruck completed the three-mile course in 18:54.
Pullman had two runners inside the top 10. Haley Varnum was fourth (19:57.68) and Madeline Walker was seventh (20:27.36).
Asotin was the boys champion. Logos was second, followed by Pullman, Moscow, Clarkston and Lewiston. Moscow’s Jerry Cook was second in 16:11.99.
Jack Barrett, Dylan Flolo and Ryan Swallow all scored as Lake City (5-0, 2-0) topped Post Falls (4-2, 1-1) 3-1 in an Inland Empire League 5A match in Coeur d’Alene.
• Jeremiah Gagnon scored a penalty-kick goal in the sixth minute and assisted on Amos Crossingham’s 57th minute goal as Sandpoint (6-2-1, 2-0) blanked Moscow (3-3, 0-1) 3-0 in an IEL 4A match in Sandpoint.
Sierra Scott broke a 1-all tie with a 37th-minute goal and Sandpoint (2-3, 1-1) held on to beat Moscow (1-2, 0-1) 2-1 in an IEL 4A match in Moscow.
