Freeman ousts Eagles from first

Jack Paukert scored 19 points and Freeman used excellent free-throw shooting to upset Lakeside 58-49 in a Northeast A League basketball game Tuesday night in Nine Mile Falls.

Jacob Phipps and Ryan Maine added 11 points apiece for the Scotties (10-8, 7-4), who made 17 of 19 free throws.

The loss dropped the Eagles (14-5, 9-2) out of first place with one game remaining.

Lakeside’s Ryan Quigley scored 14 points.

Riverside 70, Kettle Falls 46: Dalton Rausch scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half and the Rams (17-2, 10-1) routed the visiting Bulldogs (6-13, 1-10). Riverside shot just 2 of 16 from the field in the first quarter and scored five points, but got its offense rolling thereafter. Connor McKern and Tyler Johnson combined for 35 points for Kettle Falls.

Medical Lake 67, Chewelah 49: Tellas Johnson had 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists and Cooper James added 15 points as the Cardinals (7-13, 5-7) beat the visiting Cougars (5-14, 2-9). Johnson and James combined to make 9 of 15 3-pointers. Chewelah’s Mason Miller scored 19 points.

Inland Empire 5A

Coeur d’Alene 65, Lewiston 38: Tony Naccarato led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points and the Vikings (13-3, 4-1) dominated the second half in a win over the visiting Bengals (4-13, 0-4). Coeur d’Alene outscored Lewiston 38-16 in the second half to put the game away. Lewiston’s Jayden Kauffman tallied a game-high 18 points.

Inland Empire 4A

Moscow 54, Lakeland 51: Jack Akey’s bucket with a minute left in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference in the Bears’ win over the Hawks (9-7, 1-2) in Rathdrum. Akey’s shot gave Moscow (6-8, 3-0) a 52-51 lead and Nick Ellison made a pair of free throws with 3.6 seconds left to cap the scoring. Lakeland’s Tyrel Derrick’s half-court shot at the buzzer was off the mark. Akey scored 20 points and Adam Gresch added 15, including four 3-pointers, for Moscow. Derrick led the Hawks with 18 points.

Great Northern

West Valley 68, Colville 60: Jake Love scored 18 points and Martin Herford added 17 as the Eagles (12-5, 5-4) used a hot start to push past the host Indians (8-8, 3-6). Hereford made three 3-pointers in the first quarter and West Valley raced out to a 39-22 halftime lead. Colville rallied after halftime, but it wasn’t enough. Colville’s Matt Hubbard led all scorers with 28 points and Lukyn Holling added 14.

East Valley 63, Cheney 41: J.T. Phelan scored 24 points, Alex Zurfluh had 11 and Gabe Bancroft 10 as the Knights (11-7, 6-4) defeated the host Blackhawks (4-14, 1-9). Cheney’s Alex Berman tallied a team-high 14 points.

Clarkston 59, Deer Park 49: Trevor Sperry scored 17 points and DePaul Blunt chipped in 12 as the Bantams (15-2, 7-2) pulled away late to beat the host Stags (6-12, 2-8). Clarkston outscored Deer Park 18-11 in the fourth. The Stags’ Avery Miller tallied a game-high 19 points.

Northeast 1B North

Cusick 79, Selkirk 62: Chad Browneagle scored 22 points, Cameron Bauer 20 and Alec Bluff 17 as the Panthers (18-2, 12-0) defeated the host Rangers (10-10, 8-4). Selkirk’s Dominic Cain scored 19 points and Shawn Mailly added 16.

Curlew 62, Republic 51: Aaron McCullough and Coby Grumbach combined for 26 first-half points and the Cougars (11-6, 8-3) beat the host Tigers (9-10, 7-5). McCullough finished with 21 points and Grumbach 15. Republic’s Garrett Weller made six 3-pointers and scored 18 points. Aaron Fritts added 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers.

Inchelium 62, Northport 18: Quentin Holford had 23 points and 18 rebounds and Mataeo Silk added 13 points and five boards as the Hornets (4-9, 4-7) overwhelmed the visiting Mustangs (1-18, 1-11).

Northeast 1B South

Odessa-Harrington 42, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 39 (OT): Carsen Weber and Jacob DeWulf scored 10 points apiece and the Titans (14-6, 7-1) held on to beat the Warriors (4-15, 2-6) in Coulee City. Almira/Coulee-Hartline’s Dallas Isaak made a pair of free throws with 5 seconds left in the fourth to force overtime. In OT, Odessa-Harrington made a couple of late free throws and the Warriors missed a full-court heave at the buzzer. Isaak finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Wellpinit 57, Wilbur-Creston 51: Brodie Ford scored 25 points, James Best added 12 and the Redskins (10-9, 2-6) raced out to a big lead in the first half and beat the Wildcats (13-7, 4-4) in Wilbur. Wilbur-Creston cut the deficit to three late in the game, but Wellpinit held on. Wilbur-Creston’s Dorian Jaeger scored 23 points and Colton Magers added 14.

Southeast 1B

Colton 74, Tekoa-Oakesdale 27: Dalton Patchen scored 20 points, Jake Straughan added 14 and the Wildcats (10-4, 9-4) dominated throughout in an easy win over the host Nighthawks (1-14, 1-12).

Tekoa-Oakesdale’s Parker Perry scored nine points, but the Nighthawks fell behind 48-13 at the half.

North Star

Mullan 55, Kootenai 53: Hunter Kotschevar’s runner with 1.3 seconds left gave the Tigers a win over the Miners in Harrison. T.J. Placencio led Mullan with 23 points. Kootenai’s Jake Pfieffer tallied a game-high 28 points.

Lakeside 66, Wallace 56: Doug Schatz scored 19 points and Jordan Nilson added 14 – including 10 in the fourth quarter – and the Knights topped the Miners in Plummer. Wallace’s Brady Brantley led three players in double figures with 16 points.
