Boys basketball: Watkins, Quigley guide Eagles past Goats

Cody Watkins scored 18 points and Ryan Quigley added 17 as Lakeside took control in the second half and beat Chelan 63-49 in a Bi-District 6/7 1A tournament game Friday night in Okanogan.

Quigley scored 15 in the second half as the Eagles outscored the Goats 36-23.

Lakeside (17-5) will play Brewster tonight, while Chelan takes on Freeman in a loser-out game.

Cashmere 63, Riverside 52: The Bulldogs pulled away late and beat the Rams (17-5) in Okanogan.

Riverside’s Dalton Rausch scored 12 of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter. The Rams led 39-37 late in the third, but Cashmere closed the quarter on an 8-0 run and extended its lead in the fourth.

Tyler Axtell chipped in 13 points for Riverside, which will play Newport in a loser-out game today.

Okanogan 79, Newport 34: The Bulldogs dominated from the get-go and routed the Grizzlies (11-11) in Omak.

Okanogan outscored Newport 20-9 in the first quarter and led 40-16 at halftime.

Joe Weltzin scored 12 points and Jeron Konkright added eight for the Grizzlies.

Inland Empire 5A

Post Falls 76, Lewiston 55: Dalton Thompson led three players in double figures with 14 points and the Trojans (12-7, 3-3) used a hot start to get past the host Bengals (5-15, 0-6). It was the final regular-season game for both teams.

Corey Koski and Matt Hillman each added 10 points for Post Falls, which led by 13 points after the first quarter.

Up next is the Idaho 5A Region I tournament, which begins Friday. Post Falls will play at Lake City and Lewiston will play at top-seeded Coeur d’Alene.

Inland Empire 4A

Lakeland 57, Sandpoint 52: Tyrel Derrick made 9 of 12 free throws and finished with 17 points and seven assists as the Hawks (13-7, 2-2) overcame a six-point halftime deficit and beat the Bulldogs (8-11, 0-4) in Rathdrum.

Jake Ram added 13 points and Jacob Plunkett chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds for Lakeland. Sandpoint’s Jeremiah Gagnon drained seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points.
