Girls basketball: Northwest Christian slips past Lind-Ritzville/Sprague

Courtney Gray scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds as Northwest Christian beat Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 48-43 in the first round of the Bi-district 6/7 2B tourney Saturday in Waitsburg.

The Crusaders (24-0) survived despite shooting 17 percent from the field.

Mackenzie Gray added 12 points, seven rebounds and five steals for NWC. Tessa Jantz led LRS (15-10) with 16 points.

The Crusaders advance to play Dayton Monday at Mead with a berth to the regional tournament on the line. Lind-Ritzville/Sprague will play Davenport in a loser-out game Monday at Mt. Spokane.

Colfax 67, Asotin 36: Nicole Sheer scored 21 points and Amara Huber hit three 3-pointers and added 20 points as the Bulldogs (18-6) routed the Panthers in Waitsburg. Colfax will play DeSales in the second round Monday at Mead. Asotin will play St. George’s in a loser-out game Monday at Mt. Spokane.

DeSales 42, St. George’s 32: Allison Wujek scored 15 points and the Irish used a fast start to get past the Dragons (12-13) in Dayton. St. George’s Hayley Higashi scored 12 points.

Idaho 5A Region I

Lewiston 55, Lake City 37: Brett Hastings scored 11 points and the Bengals (18-3) claimed a berth to the state tournament with a win over the Timberwolves (11-12) in Lewiston. Cierra Dvorak and Clarissa Smith had nine points apiece for Lake City, which was eliminated.

Idaho 3A state play-in

Timberlake 58, Kimberly 32: Keelie Lawler and Allison Kirby combined for 29 points and the Tigers (16-8) earned a berth to the state tournament with a win over the Bulldogs at McCall-Donnelly HS. Kimberly was eliminated.

1A Division II District I

Kendrick 57, Kootenai 34: Abby Smith scored 17 points and the Tigers topped the Warriors in a winner-to-state, loser-out game in St. Maries.

GNL tiebreaker

Colville 53, Clarkston 51: Tyra Brons scored 10 points in the fourth as the Indians (16-4) stormed back to beat the Bantams (11-10) in Cheney. The win gave Colville second place in the Great Northern League. Taryn Main scored 15 points and Brons finished with 12 for the Indians. Brooke Morrow led Clarkston with 15 points.

Bi-district 6/7 1A

Freeman 60, Kettle Falls 39: Sierra McGarity scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Scotties (16-7) kept its season alive with a win over the Bulldogs (11-12) in Okanogan. Katie Vold also scored 18 points for Freeman, which will play Cascade in a loser-out game Friday at West Valley. Kettle Falls was eliminated.

Lakeside 36, Newport 33: Jocelyn Cook-Cox led all scorers with 12 points and the Eagles (20-3) edged the Grizzlies (15-8) in Omak. Jolie Frederick and Holly Malsbury combined for 21 points for Newport. Lakeside will play Okanogan in a loser-out game Friday at West Valley. Newport was eliminated.

District 7 1B

Republic 40, Selkirk 25: Demi Jo Vaughn scored 12 points and Lily Beckwith added 10 as the Tigers (19-2) earned a spot in the district title game with a win over the Rangers (12-8) in Deer Park. Republic will play Wilbur-Creston Saturday in Deer Park to determine the top two seeds to the regional tournament. Selkirk will play Wellpinit in a loser-out game Wednesday in Deer Park.

Wilbur-Creston 52, Cusick 30: Jessica Boyer scored 18 points and Kaelee Reed added 12 as the Wildcats (22-0) jumped out to a 19-4 lead and eased past the Panthers (12-6) in Deer Park. Cusick will play Almira/Coulee-Hartline Wednesday in Deer Park in a loser-out game.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 38, Odessa-Harrington 35: Reinnee Rockett scored 12 points and the Warriors (12-9) overcame an eight-point halftime deficit and eliminated the Titans (9-14) in Deer Park. Odessa-Harrington’s Lanessa Simon led all scorers with 13 points.

Wellpinit 54, Inchelium 37: Kyra Antone scored 19 points and the Redskins (9-10) forced 33 turnovers in a win over the Hornets (7-8) in Deer Park. Andreya Colvin added 12 points for Wellpinit. Tasheena Kohler had 20 points for Inchelium, which was eliminated.
