Schlosser leads Mead gymnasts to regional crown

Jenna Schlosser led Mead to a 4A regional title and a team state berth on Saturday at Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines, Wash.

The Panthers won with 170.025 points and will compete at the Tacoma Dome this weekend. Puyallup placed second, Emerald Ridge third and Central Valley fourth.

In the individual events, Schlosser swept the all-around, floor, beam, and bars. Central Valley’s McKinzie Carter placed fourth in the all-around and will compete individually at Tacoma.

• Kamiakin took first place in the team scoring at Washington 3A regionals on Saturday with Mt. Spokane second, and host University third.

Southridge’s Kiya Bjorge won the all-around and bars, and Kamiakin’s Alexis Lawrence placed first in the vault and floor events.

GSL state individual qualifiers included Mt. Spokane’s Amara Porquette, Jade Anderson, Reigan Kampmann and Brooke Fraser, plus University’s Shantel Singh, Demri Oglesbee, and Jaden Stevens.


Host Freeman won its first regional wrestling title on Saturday by a half-point over Quincy. The Scotties won the 1A regional with 163.5 points to Quincy’s 163. Lakeside was third at 158.

Lakeside had two champions in Dalton Young at 113 and Hootie Judd at 126. Freeman’s Markus Golbach won at 182 and Chewelah’s Dustin Olson at 285.
