GSL boys: CV’s 3-pointers leave LC behind

The Central Valley boys basketball team found their long-range shooting touch in the third quarter and visiting Lewis and Clark didn’t have an answer.

Trailing 19-17 at halftime, the Bears made seven 3-pointers in the third as Central Valley pulled away from the visiting Tigers 61-47 in Greater Spokane League play Friday.

Adam Chamberlain led CV (6-1, 6-0) with 22 points and Austin Daines had a season-high 16 to go with 10 rebounds. A.J. Knudsen added 12 points and six assists.

Connor Hojnacki and Bryce Westfall had 10 points each to pace LC (2-6, 1-5).

CV’s win sets up a showdown between co-leader Ferris on Tuesday at CV. Tipoff is at 5:30.

Ferris 75, North Central 37: The Saxons (8-0, 6-0) smothered the visiting Indians (0-8, 0-6). Cody Benzel led Ferris with 20 points and Kyle Monasmith added 11. Jared Christy led the Saxons on the boards with 13 rebounds. Marcus Saugen led NC with 19 points. It was the Indians’ 36th straight loss dating back to the 2011-12 season.

Gonzaga Prep 46, University 44: Reed Hopkins scored a team high 16 points on 8-of-16 shooting to lead the Bullpups (5-3, 4-2) past the visiting Titans (5-3, 3-3). U-Hi missed a 3-point shot with 4 seconds to go. Robert Little and Michael Isotalo had 10 points each to lead the Titans.

Mead 68, Rogers 34: The Panthers (4-3, 3-2) raced to a 29-6 lead in the first quarter over the visiting Pirates (0-8, 0-6). Mead extended its lead with another big quarter, outscoring Rogers 21-5 in the third. Brandon Pettersen led Mead with 14 points and eight rebounds and Will McPhee had 11 points. Robert Rucker led Rogers with 14 points.

Shadle Park 47, Mt. Spokane 43: The Highlanders (3-3, 3-2) held off the visiting Wildcats (5-3, 3-3) in a tightly contested game. George Pilimai led Shadle Park with 15 points and Dale Hagan added 10. Dylan Moran had 15 to pace Mt. Spokane and Stu Stiles chipped in 10. Mt. Spokane missed a 3-pointer with about 30 seconds left that would have tightened up the game.
