The Coeur d’Alene girls basketball team used sticky man-to-man defense Tuesday to clamp down on the Lake City Timberwolves.
The Vikings used big first and fourth quarters to handle the Timberwolves 61-36 in a 5A Inland Empire League game at LC.
CdA used a short bench as its starters saw most of the minutes. Madison Sumner led the Viks (12-2 overall, 1-1 league) with 22 points and five rebounds, Sydney Williams had 16 points, 11 rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals and Sarah Chalich chipped in 12 points.
Natalie Wheelock led LC (8-6, 1-1) with 11 points.
Clarkston 64, Deer Park 38: Jayd Eke scored 15 points and Charlie Dimke added 11 as the Bantams (4-5, 2-0) seized control from the outset and raced past the visiting Stags (1-9, 0-2). Clarkston set the tone with a 24-6 first-quarter run. Deer Park’s Zoey Mohr tallied a team-high 13 points.
Newport 60, Kettle Falls 39: Holly Malsbury made 12 of 14 free throws and finished with 29 points as the Grizzlies (8-2, 1-2) routed the host Bulldogs (6-4, 1-2). Jolie Frederick added 16 points for Newport, which gained an early advantage with a 17-5 first-quarter run. Erin Johnson led Kettle Falls with eight points.
Timberlake 39, Bonners Ferry 20: Jessica Norlander and Abbigale Seubert combined for 26 points as the Tigers (7-5, 2-0) pulled away after halftime en route to a win over the Badgers (1-8, 0-3) at Spirit Lake. Timberlake used a 14-2 third-quarter run to expand on its six-point advantage at the half and put the game away. Desi Minor led Bonners Ferry with nine points.
Freeman 59, Medical Lake 30: Katie Vold scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Haley Burke added 14 points and six assists as the Scotties (6-3, 2-0) dumped the visiting Cardinals (3-6, 1-2). Freeman opened the game on a 17-4 run and led 37-14 at the half. Cassidy Hagel led Medical Lake with 14 points.
Lakeside 62, Chewelah 31: The Eagles (9-1, 2-0) forced 35 turnovers and eased past the host Cougars (3-7, 1-2). Kelsey Jones scored 12 points and Ashley Cook-Cox and Stephanie Marikis added 11 points apiece for Lakeside. The Eagles outscored Chewelah 22-8 in the first quarter and led 34-13 at halftime. Kaitlin Krouse and Sydnie Katzer each scored seven points for the Cougars.
Davenport 48, Springdale 36: Natalee Hayes and Sidney Cole scored 10 points apiece as the Gorillas (7-5, 4-2) took charge in the third quarter and beat the host Chargers (2-11, 1-6). Springdale led by a point at the half, but Davenport went on a 14-3 third-quarter run to steal the momentum heading into the final quarter. The Chargers were led by Elish Smith’s 15 points.
Colfax 61, Liberty 42: Nicole Sheer recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the host Bulldogs (8-3, 5-1) defeated the Lancers (4-8, 3-4). Sheer also had five steals. Andrea Hamilton scored a career-high 12 points for the Bulldogs. Christine Denny led the Lancers with 18 points.
St. George’s 37, Reardan 29: Hayley Higashi scored 16 points and the Dragons (5-8, 3-4) edged the host Indians (2-10, 0-7) in a defensive battle. Reardan’s Allora Anderson scored eight points but the Indians couldn’t overcome a six-point halftime deficit.
• Lind-Ritzville/Sprague’s game at Northwest Christian was postponed due to weather. It was rescheduled for today.

Wilbur-Creston 64, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 21: Kaelee Reed scored 26 points and the Wildcats (10-0, 1-0) trounced the Warriors (5-4, 0-1) in Coulee City. W-C outscored ACH 24-7 in the first quarter and led 40-15 at the half.
Priest River 51, Riverside 24: The Spartans (6-5) turned in an impressive defensive effort and routed the host Rams (4-6). Riverside committed 33 turnovers and made just 6 of 23 shots from the floor. Jill Weimer led the Spartans with 17 points and Katlyn Summers and Karly Douglas added nine points apiece. Aston Owens tallied a team-high seven points for Riverside.
Curlew 50, Valley Christian 41: Lindsey Gibson made five 3-pointers and scored 18 points to guide the Cougars (4-5) past the visiting Panthers (1-6). Kayleona Fanning added 13 points and Haleigh Gibson chipped in 11 for Curlew. Valley Christian’s Adrienne Valenti scored 12 of her team-high 16 points in the fourth.
Cusick 50, Odessa-Harrington 43: Nalene Andrews scored 24 points to guide the Panthers (6-3) past the Titans (4-7) in Harrington. Odessa-Harrington’s Jordyn Tanke had nine points, 12 rebounds, four assists and five steals.
