First-place CV boys hold off U-Hi

Adam Chamberlain scored 28 points Thursday night, including a crucial free throw with 6.3 seconds left, as Greater Spokane League-leading Central Valley held off University 55-53 in boys basketball play at the Arena.

Chamberlain hit 1 of 2 free throws for a 55-52 advantage. The Bears (13-2, 13-1) fouled U-Hi’s Michael Isotalo, who hit the first of two free throws before intentionally missing the second. The rebound went out of bounds as time expired.

Isotalo led the Titans (9-7, 7-7) with 27 points.

The win allowed the Bears to keep an advantage on Ferris and Gonzaga Prep, both 11-2.

Nonleague

Lewiston 61, Timberlake 56: Jayden Kauffman scored 31 points and the host Bengals (4-12) used a 21-15 fourth-quarter advantage to edge the Tigers (4-10). Timberlake’s Bryce Johnson hit five 3-pointers and scored 16 points.

Wrestling

Greater Spokane League

North Central 48, Gonzaga Prep 28: The visiting Indians (6-3) won six of the last eight matches to pull away. NC won the first three matches, including Bryson Pierce’s pin at 182 pounds. G-Prep answered with three consecutive wins, but Steven Kindya (120) and Ethan Boniecki (132) followed with pins for NC.

Mead 54, Rogers 16: Tate LeClaire (138) and Mason Ju (220) recorded major decisions to help the visiting Panthers (7-2) defeat the Pirates (1-8). Mead’s Charles Smith (126) had a pin and his brother Edward Smith won an 18-10 match at 132.

Mt. Spokane 45, Shadle Park 15: Brandon Roberts (113), Jason Beck (132) and Tom Harvey (285) all tallied first-round pins to guide the visiting Wildcats (6-3) past the Highlanders (2-7). Kyle Vinson (182) recorded Shadle’s only pin.

Greater Spokane League

Central Valley 49, University 40: Megan Dimmler scored 11 of her 15 points in the second quarter as the Bears (12-4, 11-3) held back the Titans (5-11, 5-9) at the Arena.

CV’s Mariah Cunningham, and U-Hi’s McKenzie Peterson and Jessica Shill all scored nine points apiece.

Inland Empire League 5A

Coeur d’Alene 58, Post Falls 28: Sara Chalich and Madison Sumner combined for 25 points as the host Vikings (17-2, 5-1) rolled past the Trojans (10-10, 0-6).

The Vikings led 32-12 at halftime.

Nonleague

Kellogg 43, Lakeland 35: Jessi Gibbons and McKenna Stewart combined for 21 points and the visiting Wildcats (10-6) used a 14-2 third-quarter advantage to rally past the Hawks (3-16) at Rathdrum.

Kelly Ramus led Lakeland with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Gymnastics

GSL/District 8 3A: At Mead Gymnastics Center, freshman Reigan Kampmann won the all-around title to lead Mt. Spokane to the team title at the final Greater Spokane League meet of the season, which also served as the 3A district.

Kampmann won the vault (8.95) and balance beam (9.35) on the way to 36.15 in the all-around.

The Wildcats (171.95 points) also received wins from senior Amara Poquette on the floor exercise (9.475) and sophomore Jade Anderson on the uneven bars (9.0). Anderson finished second in the all-around at 35.5, followed by Poquette’s 35.1.

University (157.175) placed second, led by freshman Demri Oglesbee, who was fourth in the all-around at 34.225.

Mt. Spokane freshman Brooke Fraser was fifth in the all-around at 33.9.

All participants advance to the 3A regional Feb. 15 at U-Hi. The 4A regional is the same day at Mt. Rainier High.
