Northwest Christian’s boys and Colfax’s girls each won team titles at the Northeast 2B district track and field meet at Whitworth University on Tuesday.
Jerry Sander won twice (shot put, discus) for the champion Crusader boys, while Scout Cai won four events (100, 200, high jump, pole vault) for the champion Bulldog girls.
In the boys events, Ryan Thayer of Liberty-Spangle won the 100 and 200. Lind-Ritzville’s Ryan Whitmore won both hurdles races. Davenport’s Austin Zeller won three times (pole vault, long jump and javelin).
In the girls events, Parker Warwick of Colfax won the 400, 110 hurdles and ran a leg on two winning relays.
• In the Northeast 1B district meet at Whitworth, Odessa-Harrington’s boys and Wilbur-Creston’s girls took home team titles.
Sam Schafer was a four-time winner (100, 200, triple jump, high jump) for the champion Tiger boys, while Karlee Maioho won twice (high jump, 100 hurdles) for the champion Wildcat girls.
In the boys events, Grant Marchant of Valley Christian won four times (800, 1,600, 3,200, 4x400 relay).
In the girls events, Shania Graham of Republic was a three-time champ (800, 1,600, 3,200).
The Toppenish Wildcats scored three shootout goals to slip past the visiting Pullman Greyhounds 2-1 in a State 2A first-round match in Toppenish.
Mason Petrino scored early in the second half to give the Greyounds a 1-0 lead, but the Wildcats found the net 13 minutes later to knot the score.
The score remained 1-1 through the rest of the second half and two five-minute overtime periods.
Toppenish goalkeeper Armando Bravo stopped two of three penalty kicks in the shootout with the lone score coming off the foot of Pullman’s Matt Winchell.
