Some of the top post collegiate male and female throwers and top high school athletes will be on hand Friday and Saturday in Rathdrum for the third annual IronWood Throws Classic.
Action begins Friday at 3 with javelin and discus and conclude Saturday at 2 with hammer and shot put. The event is at 1620 N. Highway 53 on developed acreage for throwing owned by IronWood Camp founder Bart Templeman.
Among the post collegiate competitors will be Whitworth senior Andrew Bloom in the javelin.
In the high school division, Coeur d’Alene senior Grady Leonard, whose career best is 67 feet in the shot put, will compete.
Two U.S. record holders are competing, Templeman said. Gia Lewis Smallwood holds the record in the discus and Gwen Berry has the hammer record.
The lone returning champ is David Pless, who won the shot a year ago.
The event is free to the public.
