Eastern Washington players selected to participate in all-state basketball games

The boys and girls senior all-state basketball games are scheduled for Saturday and several area players will be participating in the festivities.

The Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (WIBCA) boys games will be held at Curtis High School.


2 p.m.: 1B vs. 2B

4 p.m.: 1A vs. 2A

6 p.m.: 3A vs. 4A

Naje Smith of Lewis and Clark will play for the boys 4A team alongside 7-foot-3 Riley Sorn of Richland, who was named 4A player of the year by WIBCA. The Tigers knocked off the Bombers in the state third-place game on March 3. Smith scored 27 points in the game.

State 4A champion Gonzaga Prep’s Matty McIntyre will coach the 4A team.

Michael Coumont and Quin Hopkins of Freeman and Koa Pancho of Newport will represent the area on the 1A team. Justin Jeske (Liberty), Josh Maynard (Northwest Christian) and Cade Peplinski (St. George’s) help fill out the 2B team.

The boys 1B team includes Brandon Flett (Wellpinit), Payton Nielsen (Alimra/Coulee-Hartline), Jacob Tewalt (Pomeroy) and Ryan Wolf (Pomeroy).


The Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches’ Association girls games will be held at King’s High School.


2 p.m: 1B vs. 2B

4 p.m.: 1A vs. 2A

6 p.m.: 3A vs. 4A

The 4A team will be coached by Central Valley’s Freddie Rehkow and will feature Stanford-bound Lexie and Lacie Hull, fresh off the Bears’ 4A state title win over Woodinville. The Falcons’ Regan Schenck will join the twins on the 4A team.

Lakeside’s Sienna Swannack was named to the 1A team while Ceci Bergquist (St. George’s), and Sydney Abbott (Davenport) were selected for the 2B team.

The girls 1B team includes Emma Avey (Selkirk), Emma Perry (Oakesdale), Gabi Rick (Selkirk), Georgia Meyer (Colton) and Katie Arrasmith (Garfield-Palouse).
