Softball roundup: Kelsey Gumm homers and Central Valley tops Mt. Spokane in GSL opener

Central Valley 10, Mt. Spokane 5: Kelsey Gumm had two hits, including a home run, and the Bears (2-0, 1-0) defeated the Wildcats (1-2, 0-1) on Monday. Gumm also pitched a complete game for Central Valley with nine strikeouts. Jordan Williams also homered for CV.

Gonzaga Prep 15, Shadle Park 5: Maddy DeMarco had four hits, including two doubles with three RBIs to lead the Bullpups (2-1, 1-0) over the Highlanders (0-2, 0-1). Josie Kobluk added a home run among three hits for G-Prep.

Mead 6, Lewis and Clark 3: Peyton Cushner homered and Stella Kelly struck out eight in a complete-game effort to lead the Panthers (1-2, 1-0) over the Tigers (1-2, 1-0).

University 23, Ferris 3: Alyssa Bentahagen hit two home runs and the Titans (1-2, 1-0) defeated the Saxons (0-1, 0-1). Brooklyn Hecker collected three hits for University, including a grand slam.

Rogers 10, North Central 0: Destiny Sandbergen hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and the Pirates (2-0, 1-0) defeated the Indians (0-2, 0-1). Macey Finch threw a three-hit shutout for Rogers.

Nonleague

Deer Park 13-4, East Valley 7-3: The Stags scored twice in the top of the seventh to sweep a doubleheader from the Knights. Payton Erickson had five hits on the day for Deer Park.

In the first game, the Stags pushed seven runs across in the seventh inning. Abby Brake had three hits and a homer for the Knights.

Lakeside (WA) 14, West Valley 1: Olivia Charbonneau clubbed a pair of home runs with four RBIs and Lakeside (WA) won in a battle of Eagles.

Cheney 12, Medical Lake 3: Shyla Courchaine collected four hits, including three doubles, and the Blackhawks (4-0) defeated the Cardinals (1-1). Courchaine also pitched a complete game for Cheney. Hannah Petek homered for Medical Lake.
