Kyle Van Boeyen fired a complete-game one-hitter and the Lewiston Bengals edged the Lake City Timberwolves in an Idaho 5A District I-II first-round baseball game on Monday in Coeur d’Alene.
Ryder Shoults drove in George Lopez with a sixth-inning double for the game’s only run and Van Boeyen made it stand up as the Bengals (11-13) finished off the upset.
Kyle Manzardo tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits, and had the only hit for the Timberwolves (18-4).
Post Falls will host Lewiston on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the championship game.
Post Falls 3, Coeur d’Alene 2: Chase Cripps beat out an infield hit to deep shortstop, scoring Matt Vasquez from third base, and the Trojans (10-10) slipped past the visiting Vikings (10-9) in an Idaho 5A District I-II game.
The Trojan rally came with two out and no runners on base. Jacob Pfennings went the distance for the Trojans, striking out five and allowing just three hits and no earned runs. Cripps totaled three hits and Nate Buer two for the Trojans.
Lake City will host Coeur d’Alene in a loser-out game on Tuesday.
Idaho 4A District I-II: Tristan Clift tossed three scoreless inning in relief and the visiting Lakeland Hawks downed the Sandpoint Bulldogs 3-1 in a first-round matchup. Garrett Moen drove in the go-ahead run with a base hit in the sixth inning.
Lakeland advanced by beating the Moscow Bears 5-1 behind Max Baker’s complete-game five-hitter. Baker stole home in the fifth inning. Clift led the Hawk offense with two hits and two RBIs, and the Hawk defense turned four double plays.
