Josh Mendoza went 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs and Richland (14-10) eliminated Ferris (14-11) 4-1 in the District 8 4A third-place game at Avista Stadium on Saturday. Brock Bozett went 2 for 3 with a run for the Saxons.
Kamiakin 3, Mt. Spokane 2 (8): Jackson Zioboro went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs including the go-ahead single in the eighth and the Braves (12-14) eliminated the Wildcats (18-5) in extra innings in a District 8 3A loser-out at Southridge HS. Ben McKinnis struck out six over 5 2/3 shutout innings – and tripled and scored – for Mt. Spokane.
District 7 2A
West Valley 8, Othello 1: Hunter Tiffany pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and the Eagles (15-9) eliminated the visiting Huskies (11-13) in a 2A crossover to qualify for state. Jaxson Imada went 3 for 4 and Bryan Andrews had an RBI single for West Valley.
Ephrata 7, Pullman 5: Zac Berryman hit a solo home run and the Tigers (17-7) eliminated the Greyhounds (15-7) in a 2A crossover at Johnson-O’Brien Stadium. Hyatt Utzman slugged a two-run home run for Pullman.
District 7/9 1B
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 2, Odessa 0: Tim Hahn had an RBI single in the fourth inning and the Warriors (24-0) beat the Tigers (19-3) in the District 7/9 1B championship game. Dalton Ketner had 10 strikeouts for ACH. The Warriors advance to state to play the winner of the District 5/6 championship on Saturday in Walla Walla. Odessa also advances to state.
Pomeroy 18, Colton 13: Ryan Wolf had a three hits including a triple and the Pirates (11-6) beat the Wildcats (15-5) in the District 7/9 1B third place game. Both teams advance to state.
Colton 12, Cusick 2: Reece Chadwick pitched a complete game with six strikeouts, allowing one hit and one earned run, and the Wildcats (16-6) defeated the visiting Panthers (11-6) in a loser-out matchup. For the Wildcats, Kien Ankerson went 3 for 3 with two doubles, three RBIs, and two runs. Ethan Hardie had a double, the only hit for Cusick. Colton will play Naselle in the state regional round next Saturday.
Pomeroy 1, Selkirk 0: Hogan Heytvelt pitched a complete game, allowing only one hit and the Pirates (10-6) eliminated the Rangers (9-9) in a loser-out game.
