Shane Walker, despite being hit in the face with an errant ball in the dugout during the middle of the fourth inning, struck out eight in six innings Saturday and Bonners Ferry (17-5) topped Homedale (23-5) 4-2 in the Idaho 3A State baseball championship game at Treasure Valley CC in Ontario, Oregon.
Ty Bateman went 2 for 3 with an RBI double while Brady Bateman added three hits.
Post Falls 18, Lewiston 4: Chase Cripps doubled three times with four RBIs and the Trojans (14-11) downed theBengals (12-15) in the 5A State third-place game at Capital HS.
Nate Buer had two hits and scored four runs for the Trojans while Jake Pfennigs and Quin Bennett had three hits with a home run apiece for the Trojans. Bennett went the distance and allowed five hits.
Payette 13, Timberlake 7: The Pirates topped the Tigers (15-9) in a 3A State loser-out game at Treasure Valley CC.
Homedale 8, Bonners Ferry 3: The Trojans beat the Badgers (18-2) in the 3A State championship game at Bonneville HS in Idaho Falls. The Badgers topped South Fremont 8-3 in a loser-out game and topped Filer 10-6 in a semifinal earlier in the day.
Melba 5, St. Maries 2: The Mustangs downed the Lumberjacks (18-3) in a 2A State semifinal at Minico HS. St. Maries beat Declo 14-4 in a state loser-out earlier in the day to advance.
Track and field
Tyler Trengove (Post Falls) won boys high jump at 6 feet, 8 inches and took second in triple jump at 43-10 1/4 on the second day of the 5A State championships at Dona Larson Park in Boise. Matt Ward (Coeur d’Alene) won boys discus at 161-5
Melody Kempton (Post Falls) placed second in the girls high jump at 5-6. Keara Simpson (Lake City) won girls discuss at 134-9, Emily Bronson (CdA) took second at 130-10 and Lizzy Wensley (Lake City) was third at 125-6.
