Gabe Passey went 2 for 3 and Moses Lake (18-4) eliminated Mead (16-7) 3-1 in a state 4A first-round game at Shadle Park HS.
Mead’s Dalen Simbler had a pair of hits and drove in the Panthers’ run. Mason Wells pitched a complete-game three-hitter but Moses Lake pushed two across in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Austin Reed added two hits for the Panthers.
Mead had multiple runners on base base several times with two outs, but couldn’t find the big at-bat.
“We couldn’t get any timely hits,” coach Steve Hare said.
Wells took a no-hitter into the fifth, but ran into trouble in the sixth. Moses Lake drew a leadoff walk, and a sacrifice and single put runners at the corners.
The Chiefs put the squeeze play on for a run, and a wild throw on the next grounder allowed a run to score from second.
“Defensively we fell apart a bit and didn’t capitalize on opportunities to get guys out,” Hare said.
2A first/second rounds
West Valley 4, Liberty 3: Toby Andrews and George Fisher both plated runs in the sixth inning to gain the lead for West Valley and the Eagles (16-8) eliminated the Patriots (13-10) in a second round-game at Gonzaga Prep.
West Valley advances to the final four and will face Mountlake Terrace at County Stadium in Yakima on Friday at 1 p.m.
In its first-round game, West Valley eliminated Steilacoom 4-1.
Hunter Tiffany struck out six and allowed a one run in a complete game five-hitter. Connor Whitney went 3 for 3 and drove in three runs for West Valley.
1A first/second rounds
Freeman 7, College Place 6: Keegan Cottrell went 2 for 4 and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh and the Scotties (22-3) came back from a four-run deficit to eliminate the Hawks in a second-round game at Ferris HS.
Desmond Parisotto went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Caleb Watts added an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
The Scotties advance to their fourth consecutive final four and will face Cedar Park Christian on Friday at 7 p.m. at County Stadium in Yakima.
Freeman eliminated Kiona-Benton 10-0 in a first-round game at Ferris HS.
Parisotto threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts while Konner Freudenthal went 2 for 2 with a triple, three runs, and three RBIs, and Jace Phelan added three hits with three RBIs.
2B first/second rounds
Tri-Cities Prep 5, Colfax 1: The Jaguars (24-2) eliminated the Bulldogs (21-5) in a second-round game at Wenatchee HS.
Colfax knocked off Kittitas 3-1 in a first-round game at Wenatchee HS
Brewster 5, St. George’s 3: Joe Taylor went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored and the Bears eliminated the Dragons (17-6) in a first-round game at Davis HS.
Alex Watkins went 3 for 3 with a double, run, and RBI for St. George’s.
1B first/second rounds
Colton 2, Evergreen Lutheran 1: Cameron Bean allowed two hits and struck out four in 6 2/3 innings and the Wildcats (18-7) edged the Eagles (14-6) in a semifinal game at Winlock HS.
Luke Vining drove in both Wildcat runs with a two-out, two-strike single in the third inning. Matt Wolf induced a popup for the final out to earn the save.
Colton faces Almira-Coulee/Hartline in the state championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Wheeler Field in Centralia.
In its first-round game Colton eliminated Naselle 9-6 at Winlock HS.
Reese Chadwick struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings and Tom Wolf laced a two-run first inning single. Cameron Bean nailed down the final out for the save.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 2, Pomeroy 0: The Warriors (25-0) eliminated the Pirates (15-10) in a semifinal game at Borleske Stadium.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline ousted Sunnyside Christian 7-1 in a first-round game, while Pomeroy eliminated Odessa 7-3,
