Lydia Bergquist and Grace Harrill each scored a goal and St. George’s beat Kalama 2-0 to win the State 2B/1B girls soccer championship Saturday at Sunset Stadium in Sumner.
“The ref called a very touchy game, a lot of touch fouls, so the game was stop and go,” Dragons first-year coach Logan Georgeadis said. “Hard for our girls to get in any sort of rhythm that they are used to throughout the games we have played this year. They battled and got some really, really well-fought-for goals that they deserved.”
Georgeadis was relieved with the outcome but ready to get back out on the pitch to get ready for next season.
The Dragons (11-6-2) are only saying goodbye to two seniors, Maddy Christiansen and Abby Jones.
After being the runner-up a season ago to Life Christian Academy, the Dragons had some unfinished business.
Georgeadis was proud of his team’s performance, just as he had been all weekend.
“I couldn’t even put it in to words, to be honest with you,” Georgeadis said. “I have already told them probably 10 times today how proud I am, this whole weekend actually. Just telling them no matter what happens this weekend, how proud myself and my assistants are for how they bounced back this season and became a well-rounded team.”
Central Valley 3, Issaquah 2: Kailyn LaBrosse scored two goals and the Bears (19-2-1) defeated the Eagles (13-3-2) to take third place in State 4A play at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. Dori Ames had three assists for Central Valley.
Klahowya 2, Deer Park 1: Carmen Kiewert scored first for the Stags (16-2-1), but they fell to the Eagles (15-3-0) in the State 1A third-place game at Shoreline Stadium. Jessie Thomas had an assist for Deer Park.
