Game summary

Robert Miles led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points and Tulalip Heritage kept its season alive with a 79-69 win over Wellpinit in a 1B boys consolation elimination game at the Arena.

Shawn Sanchey added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Hawks, who took control with extended scoring runs in the second and third quarters.

The second quarter was the turning point. Tulalip Heritage applied an aggressive pressure defense, which led to steals and fast-break lay-ins. It also eliminated any rhythm from Wellpinit's offense.

The Hawks forced 19 turnovers in all and held a 17-9 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Redskins were the aggressors late, and it produced a 14-2 run to open the fourth quarter. The deficit, however, proved too much to overcome.

James Best scored a game-high 22 points and Brodie Ford had 15 points and 21 rebounds to guide Wellpinit, which had won seven straight to qualify for state for the first time since 2009.

The Hawks will play for fourth place Saturday morning at 8.
