State softball: Rain washes out 4A schedule; Liberty advances to semifinal

The schedule for the State 4A softball tournament at Merkel Sports Complex on Friday was truncated as showers that moved through the area postponed most of the games until today, including Central Valley’s matchup against Tahoma in a first-round game which was rescheduled for 8 a.m.


College Place 11, Lakeside 9: The Hawks (19-8) eliminated the Eagles (16-8) in a consolation bracket game at Columbia Playfields in Richland.

Olivia Charbonneau went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Lakeside eliminated Lynden Christian 9-2 in a consolation game after falling to Cle Elum-Roslyn 9-7 in a first-round matchup.

Royal 8, Freeman 7: Raylie Wardenaar went 2 for 4 with three runs and the Knights (9-12) eliminated the Scotties (17-9) in a consolation game.

Hannah Brock went 4 for 5 with a homer, triple and four runs for Freeman, which lost to Castle Rock 6-4 in a first-round game.

Warden 8, Colville 4: The Cougars (22-3) eliminated the Indians (12-8-1) in a consolation game. Colville lost its first-round game to Seattle Christian 10-8.

Coupeville 14, Deer Park 2: The Wolves (15-9) eliminated the Stags (15-9) in a consolation game. Deer Park fell to College Place 8-0 in a first-round game.


Liberty 12, Onalaska 11: The Lancers (16-6) beat the Loggers (10-8) in a quarterfinal game. Liberty topped Friday Harbor (14-5) 11-7 in a first-round as Cheyanne Gleave went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Liberty plays in a semifinal at noon.

Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 11, Chewelah 5: Katelyn McGough went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs and the Trojans (21-4) beat the Cougars (15-8) in a quarterfinal game at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima.

Chewelah plays a loser-out game against Toledo on Saturday in the third-place bracket at 10 a.m. Chewelah beat Brewster 13-7 as Leah Carpenter had three RBIs in a first-round game.

Kittitas/Thorp 13, Colfax 3 (6): The Wolves (22-5) beat the Bulldogs (21-4) in a quarterfinal game.

Colfax downed Ocosta 20-18 in a first-round game. Colfax plays Friday Harbor in a loser-out at 10 a.m.

Adna 1, Northwest Christian 0: The Pirates (23-2) edged the Crusders (19-5) in a quarterfinal.

Alison Shaler threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and NWC topped Toledo (12-11) 10-1 in a first-round game.


Almira/Coulee-Hartline 6, Inchelium 2: Sarah Bradshaw pitched a complete game, Kendall Correia had two RBIs, and the Warriors (24-1) beat the Hornets (11-7) in a semifinals at the Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima.

ACH advanced to the title game against Colton today at 4 p.m., while Inchelium plays a consolation game at 2 p.m.

ACH blanked Taholah 17-0 in three innings as Bradshaw struck out five in two innings and Inchelium downed Naselle 18-5 in first-round games.

Colton 11, Pomeroy 6: Abby Kelly had two hits and the Wildcats (20-4) scored four runs in the sixth to beat the Pirates (19-7) in a semifinal. Keely Maves had three hits including a triple for Pomeroy, which faces Naselle in a loser-out.

In first round games, Colton handled Wishkah Valley 13-2 and Pomeroy topped Quilcene 22-9 as five players rapped out two hits apiece.


Seattle Christian 6, Colville 3: Connor Knack doubled twice and the Warriors (20-5) beat the Indians (19-4) in a State 1A quarterfinal at County Stadium in Yakima.

Colville faces Chelan in the third-place game today at 10 a.m. Jake Lindquist had two hits and scored a run for Colville.
