State tennis: Carolyn Johnson and Madelyn Dibble place second in 4A doubles, help Lewis and Clark to second place

Carolyn Johnson and Madelyn Dibble of Lewis and Clark fell to Reanne Lee and Dora Varsa of Skyline 6-1, 6-2 in the State 4A championship match at Hanford HS on Saturday.

Lewis and Clark was second in state as a team.

Johnson and Dibble beat Ally Peterson and Mia Rose of Thomas Jefferson 6-0, 6-1 in a semifinal earlier in the day.

In girls singles, Brooke Fager (Lewis and Clark) fell to Brooke Demerath (Inglemoor) 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in the fourth-place match at Columbia Basin Racquet Club.

4A boys: Tim Pullmann (Ferris) rallied from a set down to beat Robert Simon (Olympia) 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 in the fourth-place match at Hanford HS. Pullmann topped Dario Ristovski (Glacier Peak) 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 earlier in the day to advance in the bracket. In doubles, Eric Liu and Kyle Kuka (Mead) beat Cai Nyby and Mica Olin (Chiawana) 6-2, 6-1 in the fifth-place match at CBRC. Ferris finished tied for fifth, Mead was seventh and Lewis and Clark was tied for 15th.

3A boys: Sophomore Graham Clark (Mt. Spokane) fell to Andrew Suver (O’Dea) 60-6 (default), 6-4, 7-5 in the third-place match at Tri-City Court Club to finish sixth. Clark lost to defending state champ Alan Yim (Lakeside) 6-3, 6-2 in an earlier semifinal. Yim, who is headed to Harvard to play tennis, went on to beat Brett Pearson (Lake Washington) 6-3, 6-4 in the title match. Clark, the Greater Spokane League MVP, finished 26-2 and was the first state semifinalist for Mount Spokane, which finished tied for seventh.

2A boys: Andy He and Tim Watts (Pullman) topped Damon Little and Liam Payne (Sequim) 6-0, 6-2 in the fifth-place match at Nordstrom Tennis Center. He and Watts knocked off Bo Bradow and Mile Whitman (Port Angeles) 6-1, 6-1 earlier in the day. Pullman placed tied for ninth.

2A girls: Kerington Tenwick (Clarkston) beat Makinna Skjonsby (North Mason) 6-2, 6-2 in the fifth-place match at Nordstrom Tennis Center. Tenwick topped Priti Ahya (Lindbergh) 6-0, 6-0 earlier in the day to advance. Tiffany Phout (East Valley) fell to Marrissa Nemeth (Olympic) 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth-place bracket. Clarkston placed tied for 10th and East Valley tied for 17th.

1A/2B/1B boys: Andy Simmerman (Freeman) lost to Caeleb Hardesty (Tonasket) 0-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the fourth-place match to earn seventh place at the Yakima Tennis Club. Simmerman beat Trennen Slade (Granger) 6-3, 6-2 earlier to advance. Nolan Ng (Riverside) lost to Hardesty 6-4, 7-5 earlier in the day. In doubles, Owen Bryant and Daniel Gady (Freeman) fell to Ryan Cooper and Huber Faris (Cashmere) 6-0, 6-3 in the fourth-place match. Bryand and Gady beat Ethan Morrill and James Colclasure (Connell) 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 earlier to advance. Freeman finished tied for sixth while Newport and Riverside tied for 11th.

1A/2B/1B girls: Allie Michael (Deer Park) beat Molly Wiser (Cascade) 6-1, 6-4 in the fifth-place match at Yakima Tennis Club. Sarah Simmerman (Freeman) fell to Bailee Wallace (Three Rivers Christian) 7-5, 6-3 in the fourth-place match to finish seventh. In doubles, Gillian Hartman and Kendra Gay (Lakeside) fell to Aleah Kert and Lauren Kert (Cashmere) 6-0, 6-1 in the championship match. Hartman and Gay knocked off Stella Johnson and Megan Evans (Cascade) 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 in an earlier semifinal. Lakeside placed sixth, Deer Park finished 10th, Freeman was 11th and Davenport tied for 15th.
